A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Scenery Add-Ons

    Description: The Western Front 1914-1918

This is a package of World War One Western Front airfields, cities, towns and ports. It comprises of new scenery in Flanders and updates to existing airfields along the Western Front.

The Flanders scenery encompasses the cities of Ghent and Bruges, the ports of Zeebrugge, Ostend, Dunkirk and Calais, and the towns of Veurne, Ypres, Albert and Armentieres.

New aerodromes include Gontrode, St Denijs-Westrem, Koolkerke, Jabbeke, Nieuwmunster, Mariakerke, Coudekerque, Petite Synthe, St Pol-sur-Mer and Droglandt.

John Fortin’s and Grinseed’s Western Front airfields have been updated and included in this package.

The coastline has been redrawn to depict the docks at Zeebrugge, Bruges and Dunkirk, as well as the Zeebrugge-Bruges canal and a number of other canal and river sections.

Many thanks go to the following people for their help, advice, time and expertise.

    Kevin,

Many thanks for knitting all the strands, for all the extra objects, for those excellent airfields and for the redrawn coast and ports.

Thanks also to Robert Scott and Allen for those amazing objects.

To think that this all started with a mole at Zeebrugge.

    Outstanding, thank you so much!!!

Can you confirm this scenery package can be used on the same install than Aerocrate's scenery needed for their 1916 campaign?

    Hi Roxane,

    Thanks - you're welcome.

Yes, this scenery can be used in conjunction with the Aerocrate scenery.

However, this scenery is based on Sander de Cocq's EurW terrain while Aerocrate's is based on stock terrain. In order to avoid duplicate rivers and roads, remove WWIRiver_8.bgl and WWIRoads_8.bgl from their respective Aerocrate folders.

We used Sander's scenery because there were more rivers and roads, as well as being compatible with existing WW2 scenery. Much of this scenery is used in Rami's Battle of France campaign.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

    Great work everyone!!!

Tried to fly the two missions but they don't show up as choices. Could someone please put the .dyn s in the mission folder?

    Thanks, voyager

This is just beautiful WWI scenery guys. A real joy to fly around and just sight see, particularly the Zeebrugge area. Just right for the Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 floatplane fighter!

    Question Reply...

    Stoney,

Ypres is inland. Are you sure you don't mean Nieuport or Dunkirk?

    Hi Stoney,
Could you give us the co ordinates for that location? It is coastal, so it may be useful to check out the waterfront from Zeebrugge to Calais.

Yes, sorry it is Dunkirk, not Ypres.(N51* 02.58 E2* 21.25).

    Hi Stoney,

Have you activated the KD_Europe_Terrain layer in the scenery library? It contains the files which redraw the coastline and harbour at both Dunkirk and Zeebrugge.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

Thanks KD, I completely re-installed my SCENEDB and with the exceptions below, everything looks fine now.

    Livestock in CFS2?

Just took off from Bailluel-Asylum aerodrome and was advised I was missing JMcow 1,2 and 4 in my library!? I don't recall seeing cows in the scenery section.

    Hi Voyager,

Sorry...my bad. Your problem with starting probably stems from the allegiance numbers. In my country.cfg they are 4 (German Naval Air Service) and 9 (Royal Naval Air Service). Those entries should fit an Aerocrate country.cfg.

My UIRES set for these two services are in the library but will soon be replaced by a new 10 "country" UIRES set.

I'm not sure why my MB didn't make .dyn files for the missions

    Hi Stoney,

I can see a couple of polygons without textures in your screenshots. I recommend installing Sander de Cocq's EurW textures first so that everything is there. You can then start experimenting with texture combinations.

I notice you're using the meandering river textures. There are generally straight canals in the low countries. I think the straight river textures are more realistic for this part of the world. I've included them in the package if you want to try them out.

Damn! Another download to add to the hyperlink list. I have a feeling it's by No Dice. I'll get onto Ravenna to see where he placed the feeding livestock.

    Thanks Stoney,

    Hello again Stoney,

I also noticed in your screenshots you have the WW2 GSL objects selected for Dunkirk.

If you want to have the Saint-Pol-sur-Mer aerodrome infrastructure showing, use the Western Front.gsl file. The oil refinery west of the field wasn't there in WW1.
