Question The "new" (2020) Microsoft Flight Sim....feedback needed

    Good afternoon,

I've heard from Tom Clayton that there has been some buzz about the need for a new library section. To do this, I'd like some info on how the sim is structured. Is the file structure identical or similar to previous versions?

(i.e., aircraft packages, repaints, sounds, scenery, etc.)

Information on how the sim "works" would go a long way in helping me construct a new library section.

    Thanks,
    "Rami"

Thanks Rami! And you really need to get this new one!

In some ways, it's nothing like anything else MS has put out. But once you get down to where the planes are located, it looks more like FSX. But that said, that's not where addons go. The content for the sim is in a Packages folder, but that's divided between an "Official" folder and a "Community" folder. Everything you install as a user goes into the Community folder, and then there are "json" files inside the addon package that direct the sim on how to use it. Even repaints go here. You never have to touch the original files.

I think that it would be a nice addition. The following sections would be a good start in my opinion.

    Guides/Tutorials
    Tools
    Liveries
    Aircraft
    Scenery

Here are some sections I think would be great to have, along with some examples of what I mean

Aircraft - modern (made for new sim), legacy (ports), liveries, ai/traffic
Scenery - regions, airports, landmarks, fixes to base scenery, fictional
External Tools (like the Auto JSON tool, planeconverter etc)
Gauges/Panels (already some very unique "panels" coming out (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr8dTMJewU8&amp)
Activities - Missions/Bush Flights/Landing Challenges - Not sure about landing challenges but I know support for creating Bush Flights is in the SDK and missions are coming at some point according to ASOBO
    Sounds

    Hi Rami,

I think the following sections would be useful:

    - Guides/Tutorials
    - Tools
    - Liveries
    - Aircraft (with the usual subdivision like vintage, early jets, cold war jets, civilian, modern, ...à
    - Scenery
    - External Tools (like the Auto JSON tool, planeconverter etc)
    - Gauges/Panels

Actually a synthesis of the two previous posters.

    Cheers,

    Question Reply...

    Hello again,

One question, if I may...should it be "FS 2020" or "MSFS 2020" for the categories?

I believe the "official" initialism is MSFS, at least that's how it is referred to by MS and Asobo, for whatever that's worth

    To all,

Okay, I labeled it as FS 2020 for now, and categorized it in a similar manner to FSX. If we need to tweak as we go, we can, but it is up. Thanks for responding!

Exclamation The FS 2020 library is now open...

    Good evening,

I have created an FS 2020 library for all of you, modeled on the version for FSX. I understand it will need tweaking, but please leave any additional comments / suggestions in this thread for me.

    Thanks,

    Thank you, Rami!

And it looks like my scenery is the first file that's live there!

    To those who have responded,

You are very welcome. However, as I stated, I set up this library based on the model I used for FSX. I do not know the file structure of MSFS, so if there are categories that can be eliminated or new ones that need to be created, please post feedback in this thread, and I will adjust accordingly as time allows.

(For those who don't know, I'm getting my Master's Degree in SPED for Moderate Disabilities, Gr. 5-12, while currently teaching US history and civics full-time, and am set to graduate in May of 2021. So while I love the images from this new sim, I won't be flying it anytime soon!)

My expertise is in that ancient sim, CFS2.

Treat yourself after you graduate! They should have all the kinks worked out by then, and there might just be some cool vintage addons (hoping)!
