    New RTX 30xx is coming

As announced prices of new cards are nice (especially when we look at the price-performance comparison of 3070). It will be nice to test it in MSFS in nearest future.

My target will be 3090 perhaps ; ).

Requires 600 watts just for the card? and 12 pin power cable. So you'll need a new PSU likely as well.

I have Be quiet 850W. About 12 pin - no, its only in Founders Edition, for the rest will be 8-pins plus one connection for coolers (and not always).
For Founders Edition you will have an adapter also so no need the new PSU if the power will be ok.

    If you have extra cables....

you'll need a cooler man. why would you buy that thing and not cool it properly? It the full price of a new PC without a gfx card. that is insane.

I saw a demo of NVIDA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) software with 4K. The FPS jump was quite dramatic but unfortunately, FS2020 doesn't support that yet and there are still reported bugs but I thought it was promising for those with legacy GPUs and helping boost performance with new GPUs.

For me it depends on how well my current setup performs when VR comes to FS2020.
ATM I get a solid 60 FPS flying over Manhattan with it set to ultra in pancake mode but if that drops through the floor in VR I'l consider upgrading.

You don't even need that card... I run a 2070SV and It's barely touching it on Ultra.

  8. #8
Hey, Firekitten recording any MSFS videos? Are you back?

Prices for those 2070s are priced about the same as a 3070. Suppose perform on par of a 2080ti, but if you have a current 2070 no need.

    Yeah I am

Not sure, if its the same performance eh... SV is 9% lower than an 80 so its not a big difference when it doesn't use all of it.

I was waiting for this to come out because it would drop the prices of the older cards. Now that I see what they cost, it looks like I'll be getting a 3080. I can't wait to play MSFS with this card.

Given the present COVID19 restrictions it might be quite some way off before it hits the mainstream.
Supply of current generation items is bad enough.

I run between 35-55 FPS with my system and a RTX 2070 Super. I also have never used more than 12GB of the 16GB system memory and about 7GB of the 8GB GPU memory. This is pushing two or three monitors and a 1080P projector.

This is according the the Developer's FPS count you can turn on via the Developer's task bar. The FPS counter also tells me that I am "mainthread" limited, which, if I understand correctly, is pretty much universal with all current CPUs. I am running at High settings as recommended by MSFS. I tried Ultra and using the 1920 x 1080 projector, I see very little difference, with exception of details further out, from the High settings.

So, my question is: Why would I want or need a larger more expensive GPS?

I may have mis-read the specs, but the 3090 looks to be a 3 slot card, large, heavy. Some motherboards and PC cases may not be able to support.
Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.

hardware isn't as big an issue right now... bigger and better is somewhat wasted by the sim's own limits.

As others have mentioned, I also run a high-end machine... Ryzen 7 2700x, 32gb Corsair Vengence ram, 2070SV... the sim is literally using HALF of my computer's potential performance... This will likely improve as they optimize and improve things over the next few months. I could literally fly and render a video, or play GTA right now and do both XD

the 3 PCIe x16 slots on my motherboard are not next to each other, so not an option for me (MSI Z97 Gaming 5).

It isnt bigger than my RTX2080Ti with tri fans. FE takes 3 slots, for the rest it will be 2,5 (so like Today's 2080Ti):

PSU is too puny. Probably just wait for now and upgrade the whole PC if/when I move on VR.

You don't need three PCIe slots next to each other, just enough free space, meaning two empty slots next to your PCIe slot.

Got it. Thanks. Makes more sense, so my layout is actually good then, as it'll just be covering little slots, not the important x16 slots.

My system currently has the 1070 Founders Edition, but I can only run with a few settings on high and it still pauses when I get near a medium size city, much less a large one. Also, that's in a plane barely going 100 knots. I want to be able to fly over a city in an F-15 with most settings on high without a hiccup. I'm just thinking ahead. Besides, they still don't have everything enabled in the sim and I also want to be able to handle future growth. Like power lines. I haven't seen a single power line anywhere.
