Icon5 How to switch windows without cutting sound?

In MSFS 2020, just like in other sims (FSX, X-Plane), when I switch (Alt-TAB) to another program window (Chrome browser/SkyVector, for example) the sim keeps flying but the sound is muted.

Is this inevitable? Do all of you get this behaviour, or is there some way of configuring Windows or the simulator to keep the sound going when switching active windows?

    Thank you for any suggestions.

I think there's a setting for that. Let me look...
    Thermaltake H570 TG Tower
    X670 Aorus Elite AX motherboard
    AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Processor
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
    NZXT Kraken X cooler
    32GB DDR5 RAM
    750 Watt PS
    Windows 11 Home

Yes there is a setting for it, as seen highlighted here:

    Lenovo Legion T730 / Intel Core i9-9900K 3.6-5.0 GHz / 130W Liquid Cooling / GeForce RTX 2800 / 32GB DDR4 / MSI 550W PSU / 4K 43" TCL LED TV

Options > General > Sound > Set "Mute Audio In Background" to Off.

    Adding Turbotop

That option does indeed keep the sound on when I switch to VFRMap in Chrome.

But the Chrome window disappears when I click back to the simulator. That's expected.

So, if I want to keep the VFRMap window displayed while I fly, I add TurboTop to the mix:

That makes it easier to find locations on the map.
