Freeware airport YPLI Palmer's Island, Australia

    I made an airport.

I'm not sure if it will work in other people's sims though as I've seen a few other people say they are having this issue with their own scenery. I'd appreciate it if someone could download and install the airport and see if it shows up.

I've made this airport previously back in the good old VOZ days but with the new sim it needed a rebuild with higher resolution textures and models. Here's a picture of what it should roughly look like (I've since added a few palm trees to the scenery).

Thank you, Anthony, I'm looking forward to trying it out!

Hey Anthony, just to report back on my findings, unfortunately the custom scenery isn't working/loading on my end. I've noticed with other addon airports that are working, there is a star which shows up on them within the World Map view, which is also not the case with YPLI.

Seems to work without the STAR on the map. If you "type" -> YPLI as departure field, it finds the scenery (however does not show a star on the map).

Yeah, I loaded up the airport all right, but none of Ant's 3D objects display, only the default buildings. I will try to investigate further.

I have 12 other freeware addon airports currently installed as well, all the same way (placed in the "Community" folder), all displaying the 3rd-party mods/changes in the sim. The majority of them do have stars in the world map, but a few don't.

Thanks guys. Not sure how to debug this when one person sees the scenery but another doesn't.

I suspect the star thing might be for an edited airport file. I didn't change the airport data at all so that's probably why it doesn't have a star. I think you need to completely exclude the airport and rebuild it from scratch from what I have read so far. I simply placed a couple of exclude rectangles to remove the default buildings and then placed my models.

The only two other things I can think of are the folder structure. I used the example from the SDK which places things into a scenery/global/scenery kind of set-up which makes me wonder how the scenery order is handled. The other thing is something in the scenery manifest data (who wrote it, etc..)

I will try to download some other people's airports and see how they set it up.

I have just edited the files with a different file structure.

Download file is the same name. You should delete any existing installation before installing the new files as the file structure has been changed so there will be loose files floating about if you don't.

I'm not sure if this will solve the problem of the scenery not appearing but at the moment I don't know what else to do.

Worked for me the first time, the second works too. Thanks Anthony.

I'm just getting a handle on the new sim keyboard commands so I feel like the early days of FS4 back in 1988. So flying is the big task and taking screenies is just by luck.

Installed this one easy enough. Yes, the grass needs cutting. Some strange coloring of the grass around the main building. All in all a nice little GA airport. No issues at all.

Loaded the second version. No issues.

Hey Anthony, I can report that it is now displaying as it should on my end! Thank you very much!

BTW, for anyone interested, I found this thread today which explains how many of the addon airports have the star on them marking them as "bespoke/hand-crafted" in the World Map, just like the default hand-crafted airports: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t...rfields/226470

Thanks Bomber. It seems the file structure was the problem then. The SDK example has things arranged as scenery/world/scenery for the object placement file and scenery/global/scenery for the model library file. As you may all remember from FSX this is the same arrangement as the default scenery goes so I suspect that somehow put it in a lower scenery order or it caused a conflict with the bgl names (as I was using the default names too). Anyway, I just copied the format Asobo did with their detailed airports scenery for the fix.

Still weird that it worked for some people and not others. I guess we've still got a lot to learn with how this new sim operates.

There still doesn't seem to be an easy fix for the long grass though. Hopefully that will be something Asobo adds in the future rather than each scenery developer needing to develop their own method. I think it would be better for a consistent looking sim.

BTW, check out the water tanks behind the hangars. A classic case of an excessive amount of polygons and detail. I'm transitioning from good old FSDS to Blender and used this airport as a learning exercise.
