These look like 2D gauges, Chief. I believe these just won't work in MSFS. Only 3D gauges will work.( every part of a 3D gauge, like needles, face plate, knobs, bezels etc. is build up as mesh where a 2D gauge is actually just a picture of the face plate/bezel and some XML code to make knobs turn and needles work which are just pictures too)
I.e. the gauges of our freeware FS9 F-86E/F Sabre will *not* work in MSFS because the're 2D while there's a good chance that the gauges of the Milviz' payware iteration of the F-86 *will* work because the're 3D.
AFAIK Milton never ventured into 3D gauges for the VC's of his wonderful freeware projects so most probabely non of the gauges will work in MSFS.

Have you checked the transparency of the instrument glass?
Load it into ModelConverterX - will report missing textures and show what glass is in the instruments.
The FR 109 G6 works fine, the FR Heron has white instruments, due to a missing texture - FSX leaves it transparent but MSFS renders white.
Is there an easy fix for that issue with the Heron? I gave up on it because of the gauge issue but would like to have it back.

I think I copied and renamed some transparent textures to fix the Heron gauges - ModelConverterX tells you the missing names..
The FSX SDK can be downloaded from Microsoft - think I used this one just for the MDLwriter EXE.

Considering I really do not know what I am doing, the Razbam A-7E Corsair II looks pretty good; especially considering it's "age". But for the first time since I started attempted using the Legacy Importer, the aircraft engines will not start. Any help here? Thanks, NC

This is almost always caused by visibility conditions applied to parts of the model. Sometimes this is for copy protection, sometimes it is for advanced features which don't work in MSFS anyway. You can remove the visibility conditions by editing the mdl in ModelConverter if you want to.

I had purchased the aircraft via simmarket over a decade ago but when I tried to reinstall it into FSX (for portover purposes), it failed because of bad installer. I got the Buchon working today. As others have noted, it converted fine but most of the gauges were blank. The problem was the glass texture over the gauges, which was not rendering transparent.
I never had used ModelConverterX before, but yesterday I downloaded it and taught myself enough about it to start working with materials.
I played around with the materials and their textures trying to get them to be transparent, but I couldn't figure it out, so I just ended up deleting them. Not the most elegant solution, but it works. Now there is no glass over my instruments but they look and work fine. The plane flies nice. I am using the legacy flight model, and it seems even a bit less squirrelly than it is in P3D. As in P3D, the safest method of takeoff is to hold the stick back and fly off in the 3-point attitude. I am still tweaking the handling and performance.
If you want to do what I did, here's how.
- Get ModelConverterX and make sure it knows where to find the MDL writer exe in your FSX SDK.
- Convert the models using Legacy Importer in the usual way. Do the following operations on your new FS2020 folders, NOT your original FSX/P3D install!
- Load each model. If you bought the full Buchon package, there are two different versions (original panel and modern with GPS), and there are three different model folders in the original one and two more in the modern, and each has an internal and an external model. That's 10 models to edit in all.
- When the model is loaded, click on the Material Editor button. For me that's the seventh button on the upper of the two toolbars.
- In the list that comes up, highlight glass_t, p40_reflections and sc_reflections_t, then click the Remove button at the top of that window. The models in the original cockpit version will only have the glass_t and not the other two.
- Export as an FSX MDL with the same filename, replacing the original file.
You're done, the plane should work now.

Here are some pics of the Aircraft Factory F4U-1A and F4U-1D which I converted today.
This one took some extra work. When converted with Legacy Importer, it looked great except that all of the cockpit transparencies were opaque, both from inside and outside.
Since I had just taught myself ModelConverterX to get the Buchon working, I took a shot at editing the materials. The cockpit glass materials are non-textured in this plane, which made things easier.
It took a few hours to figure this out and what I had to do was a bit complicated, so I'm not explaining it here. But I always feel these posts are more helpful when they explain how-to rather than just flex about what you did, so if folks want to know, I will try to post some instructions.
Getting the drop tanks to disappear was another issue. In the FSX model, these are animations controlled by a clicky gauge in the cockpit. There is no key command mapping, therefore no way to make them go away with the restrictions imposed on legacy models in FS2020.
My solution was to edit the models to delete the tanks. I created new model folders with planes without drop tanks, and added liveries to the aircraft.cfg referring to different model folders, so I can select whether I want tanks visible or not at the livery selection screen.
The cockpit looks great and all of the major gauges work except for the manifold pressure and tach. You have to judge your power setting and rpm from your control positions, which is not too hard.
The surfaces are very matte except for one livery which is very glossy. I need to play with the spec textures to get those the way I like them.
For flying, if you convert this plane I recommend using the modern flight model. If you use legacy, it is crazy twitchy in the roll axis. Whichever one you use, I found it underpowered. I couldn't get it much over 250 knots in level flight on the deck. The Milviz in P3D or this plane in FSX will hit 300. I increased the power scalar in the aircraft cfg to 1.50 and now it seems about right. Maybe the sim is still modeling the drag of the drop tanks. It would be good to be able to jettison them for real. I wonder if it is possible to set that parameter in the .flt file.
I'm happy to have this airplane in the game. I know the Vertigo Hellcat converts more easily, but a Hellcat just isn't a Corsair.
