    Best Payware B-17

So my grandfather flew in the B-17 as a navigator over Europe, 35 missions. I've always been fascinated by the plane for that reason. I know there are some freeware versions of the B-17 out there, but who has the best payware version? And is it worth upgrading to a commercial product? Thanks!

If you like realism go for the A2A B17 with Accu Sim.

Did your grandfather fly an F or G version? The Aeroplane Heaven one is a F version and the A2A one is later the G model.

Both models are very nice, the A2A one comes with Accusim, which provides you more options to fiddle with. This however has its price as the Aeroplane Heaven one costs half the amount you will have to pay for the A2A one.

But in the end its your own preferences.

    Cheers,
    Huub

The Aeroplane Heaven package contains the B-17E and B-17G early and late models.

The one that will get a little closer is that of AH but if that was possible I would prefer that of DCS.
When has that of A2A The front windshield is too large and does not represent the eyes of the B-17.
If only Manfred Jahn could do one as well as the DC3.
My father had 6,900 flight hours on a B-17G when he was an IGN flight engineer. He took part in the film "la grande vadrouille".
    I have lots of photos.

For me A2A, AH is nowhere near I'm sorry to say.
You can find most of my repaints for FSX/P3D in the library here on the outhouse.
For MFS paints go to flightsim.to

My favorite is the FS-Cast B-17. Been out for a long time but is very nice.

I second that, I have the AH version and like it quite a bit, I have not tried the A2A as they never updated it for P3D

    ZakPower,

By now you will understand that there isn't something like the "best B-17" There is something like "the one I personally like the best". But the word "personally" in this sentence tells it all.

    Cheers,
    Huub

A2A B-17 feels quite at home in P3Dv3. And IMO with AccuSim option it is absolute winner no matter the price. It is sooo immersive.

There is also the return of microprose to the world of flight swimming. Just downloaded the new issue of PC Pilot. Haven’t read it yet but a big B-17 article.

The FS-Cast B-17G was a nice package, and included an unarmed "civil" version.

Last sold by SkyUnlimited, not sure it is still available.

It's a repaint I made + the Memphis Bell available on flightsim.com. You will find them by Martial FERON research.
And it is 2 B-17G were from the IGN (national geographical institute) are the F-BEEA which ended its life by shooting the film Memphis Bell, and the other fortress which is at Sallis was the F- BGSP.
