Bought my first macro lens recently, the Sigma 105mm f2.8. It takes a bit of practice, and the use of an external flash certainly helps even in daylight.

That lens has a history of taking exceptional shots. I've had one for several years now and while I have not used it a lot I am always impressed whenever I use it. Mine is a Pentax K mount version.

Yes, it seems like a good lens, and a lot cheaper than the Canon alternative. The only slight annoyance is the somewhat noisy stabilizer.

I can honestly say that I have never encountered that problem Ferry seeing as Pentax use in-body stabilization rather than in-lens stabilization.
I much prefer buying stabilization once (i.e. in the camera body) rather than having to pay for it repeatedly on every lens I attach to the body! In-lens stabilization also adds considerable weight to the camera bag as all the 'gubbins' is included multiple times instead of once.

Last time out I was dragging a full frame body, a 24-105, 100-400 and the macro lens with me, an external flash and several small items including spare batteries, filters etc. Not going to notice a few grams extra for the IS.
