    Khalkhin-Gol Campaign

...A brutal encounter between the Soviet Union and Japan in Mongolia, 1939. Many years ago, I heard of a campaign of this conflict/incident for CFS2. Does anyone know of it? Was it ever published? With all the newer aircraft available, this could be an interesting one to build or update.

    Greg,

Xavierb sure did: Japanese vs. Soviet campaign reenacting the fights on the Mongolian border in 1939. See credits and installation instructions in file install_readme.rtf. Have fun.

I think it's only the IJAAF side, though. Is you wanted to fly it from the "Soviet" side, you'd have to "flip" the missions around, like I did with the Battle for Europe, which was originally a Luftwaffe-only campaign.

This battle is also known as the 'Nomonhan Incident'.

Well, I got the book a few days ago and started downloading aircraft from our Warbirds library sources. I came up a bit short, though. I still need to find, for example: Nakijima Ki-27; Mitsubishi Ki-10-I; Ki-15 (type 97); TB-3 4M-17.

I will search the links provided in the "old" K-G campaign, but I'm afraid many are gone. Any help from you folks on links or where to look for 30's Japanese and early Soviet downloads would be appreciated.

Did you really search the Library?

I'm going to install the original XB campaign and see where it can be modified/improved. I would like the newest versions of the aircraft concerned and assuming the attention paid to the Chinese TO with the Flying Tigers, I expected more, newer versions of all aircraft involved.

I started downloading the files for this in the order they were presented in the documentation (didn't want to get mixed up which ones I had and had not downloaded) and then got a little sidetracked and haven't gotten back to it, but one of the planes, maybe the Br-20 but I can't remember for sure, was no longer available so I don't know what the substitute for it is. There was another version of whatever plane it was but that would mean editing the mission files to reference it. Maybe the plane in question is available on a different site than the one mentioned?

The Br.20 is still available here and comes with a Japanese skin: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...d=150&id=14011

I was working from a foggy memory before and was only guessing about the Br-20. Having now checked it is the Tupolev SB-2 which is no longer around and the provided link doesn't work. There are 2-3 alternatives but I'm not sure which, if any of them, is a good choice

Thanks for the answer. Did you have to edit the mission file to use it?

    Tupolev sb-2

FYI: over at Simviation page 162 it is at the bottom of the page. It is the Tupolev sb-2 -100 and AI only according to the description. Using a IPad right now and couldn’ t copy the link to put here.

Thank you Roxane-21. I missed that one. I've downloaded it and installed most, if not all of the planes I will need, installed the scenery and gsl., modified the airbases.dat file. Next, I'll fly around some of the bases and see if any changes are needed.

I've made some progress and finished 3 missions. The only issues I have are with the terrain. I have maps which show some terrain features clearly marked, but the CFS2 world has no lakes, hills or rivers. I am using the bases from xavierb's Nomonhan campaign as points of reference. I may need to build and add some.

I intend to build 2 campaigns - Soviet first, then the Japanese side. I am trying various models of unfamiliar aircraft, for example the SOV I-15. One model that I like, seen in the screen shots, is highly maneuverable, but its firepower borders on fantasy. I am currently looking at another to see if it fits the bill before I go monkeying with dp files. I haven't chosen a favorite I-16 yet either.

One of our members was courteous enough to inform me of some omissions on the downloads readme of my recent Saratoga campaign. I will fix that and get back to USSR vs Japan - 1939.

Photos: taking off; enroute; 1st kill; 2nd kill; 5th (? way too much firepower I felt) kill.

    Cheers:

Don't forget you are fighting Japanese aircraft. You could shoot them down with a .45.
