    fdg2_ p-47d-23 issues

After takeoff , the a/c tries to roll hard left. Holding hard right aileron keeps from crashing but will not straighten out.I use keyboard for trim. How do I change the trim in the aircraft .cfg?Any other a/c in the install fly just fine with joystick.

    Hello Highpockets,

I had the same issue with the P-47D-23 that I built many years ago. It turned out to be an error in the Damage Profile in which with full ammunition loads, one side was much heavier than the other. I eventually figured it out by firing off all the ammunition and when I did that, the problem went away. There is also the possibility that the Fuel Tanks are mis-located but that is less likely because on those Thunderbolts, all tanks were on the centerline of the aeroplane.

Capt Kurt was doing some rework on that plane under the title message" battle for Europe." I think he did another dp on it.
I am going back to look. I did not know enough about the model as to where to look. Good tip! thanks

    Highpockets,

Captain Kurt was going to look at the .dp to "toughen it up" a bit. I am aware of the flight envelope issue, and am going to try and find a solution for it prior to releasing an update. Interestingly, it only happens with the centerline tank attached, and does not have the problem when the tank is absent.

Went looking and no full FDG2 P-47 seems to be left here. Going to guess some copy and paste of drop tank data was done and not tested.

CFS2 air file structure doesn't allow for a "true" centerline ventral drop tank position in the air file. All models using such a tank are forced to use the left drop tank position for the tank and it must be set to "0" feet laterally, to reflect its true centerline position on the a/c's belly. The metric numbers in the tank positions dictate where the tank weight will be carried in the dynamics.

In the case of this model, the tank position was not set to "0" feet for weight assignment to the belly, so the weight of the fully loaded 175 pound tank is being loaded on the left wing, with the wing-dipping effect you're experiencing. Simply set the lateral offset to "0" and you'll be fine.

Many thanks for this, Bearcat. Easy when you know how!

I notice the airfile for FDG's original version of the P-47 didn't have this issue. Just goes to show how complicated all the spinning plates are and how even old-timey designers can drop one once in a while!

    Cheers

Thanks for all the input. I will happily wait till one of you airfile guys fix it. Felt like I was driving an 18 wheeler with a blow left front tire.

    Rami

I used the search and FDG2 and never saw it. Guess I should have done a basic FDG search. Just glad problem is found.
