    Defense for Europe Campaign

    Okay,
    So far, one mission:
    Great campaign.......

    Two or three problems:

    1) When approaching the Netherlands coast water and SOME coastlines are in squares.

    2) When loading, even though everything is right in the Objects_db, Scenedb, and mdlnames, the sim is not finding "lw_building_d3".

    3) Sim is not finding "jp_hanger1a". It is not on my system. It is not in the pristine unmodified install of CFS2.

The only airbases are JHS airbases for UK, France, Germany.
    Here is my scenery.cfg:

Did you copy the world textures to the main CFS2/TEXTURE. That's usually the culprit for those squares. I don't think reducing the visibility setting to 15 miles or so would help because the terrain fathre away is showing up just fine.

The building-d3 is in the lw_library_objects_wfixed_buildingsbgl.zip at MaskRider's site

The jp_hanger1a is in the Xavierb Japanese hangars pack available here.

I was copying them as you were answering. (textures)

The lw buildings is all installed properly. For whatever reason it is not seeing it.

I will go through and make sure nothing is misspelled.

I found the Xavier jp_hangars. Without the xb prefix, I didn't think to look there. Finally just did a search on my scenery folder and subfolders and found them.

    Thanks Capt Kurt

    Devildog73,

Now you know why I started doing auto-installers, lol.

As far as the Lindsay Watt buildings are concerned, the package on Maskrider's page should cover any issues. Did you double-check to ensure that everything went to where it was supposed to?

Yes, for whatever reason that one building_d3 is the only one causing problems. It did so this morning in the BoB install also.

I have reloaded it in both from the source dp and re-examined the spelling in mdlnames and dp files.

Both Battle for Europe and BoB are now working fine. Though upon returning to base after we shot down all of the Stukas over the ships ALL of my AI flight crashed just short of the runway.

I'll start Xing to end the mission upon approach about 10 miles out and see if I can keep my flight of experienced pilots for the remaining missions.......

I think our (Dutch) coast line has been blurred out by Google maps because the large amount of military facilities in that area........

Sorry, I know it a poor joke, but I couldn't resist....

    Back in the Saddle

    Well,
I have Battle of Britain, all sides, loaded and running efficiently.
I have Battle for Europe loaded and running efficiently.
Now to install the various Fighter Groups Campaigns.

I'm using individual designated installs as stand-alones due to the massive amounts of scenery, aircraft, and weapons demands.
Too much for one install, IMO.

I delete the stock aircraft, campaigns, missions, ships, and remove several CFS1 objects for non-Pacific installs.

We will see how it goes.
    So far, so good.

I know this was discussed and a repair done, but cannot find it.

The AH_Spitfire_Mk1A guns continue to fire and dump empty shell casings long after ammo is exhausted in the BoB Campaign.
Is the fix an edit of the DP or Air or Aircraft Config file?
It isn't a BIG deal, but is a bit distracting.
I switched over to Allen's remodeled AH_Spitfire_Mk1 he did from the CFS3 AH_Spit Mk IX.

*** NOPE, That isn't going to work. Allen's Spit rolls over on its left side as soon as the engine is started.***

    Devildog73,

Concerning the problem that guns continue to fire and dump empty shell casings long after ammo is exhausted.

I have had this problem on many different AC. To me it seems that it is related to the guns being damaged.

I think it is one of the few CFS2 Bugs.

    Battle For Europe Problem

    Okay,
The very first mission of the campaign, the fdg2 P-47D_23 rolls about 10-20 feet and drops through the scenery mesh and crashes.
OR, it flips over upon raising the RPMs and crashes.

I know this has been a problem in the past, but cannot find the cause and the fix.

    Question Reply...

    Lee,

I wasn't able to find anything obvious, but I will be able to take a deeper dive tomorrow. I did combine these threads to have a better understanding of the proble.

You indicated in an earlier post in this thread that everything was working properly. Did you try deleting your filelist.dat files and letting them regenerate?

Did you get your texture issue sorted out?

    Rams,

I found that by changing my settings from 32 bit to 16 bit it now works fine.

Also, found one Halesworth BGL file from another scenery install that was conflicting.

    I have since removed it.

On another note: History of the P-47 indicates they took a beating and kept on flying, many times to the astonishment of the pilots and mechanics.

Has anyone updated the damage profiles of our available Thunderbolts to match the ruggedness?

    Lee,

No, but if I want to do a warmup for getting back to the Battle of France by making an auto-installer of this first, I can see if Captain Kurt or UncleTgt can help me toughen the hide of the ol' girl a bit.

At the time I released this campaign package, I just assembled the readme and kinda left the user to figure it out.

Easy enough. But just how tough do you want them? Don't want to make it impossible to shoot them do as they weren't invulnerable.

The two versions are not the same. The Alphasim P-47 has pretty high hit point values for the engine, wings and fuselage which would make it a tough bird. But the FDG2 version has fairly low values. Want to match the FDG2 version to the Alphasim toughness?

    Kurt,

I think that's the idea. Come Tuesday after finals are over, unless I finish a little early, I think I'll do an auto-install version of this campaign. Doing an update on an existing campaign always goes quicker than doing them from scratch.

I've already updated most of the scenery in it anyway, so it's due for an overhaul.

OK here you go guys - rugged P-47s. There are differences in how the designers structured their boxes and systems, but I'd say these are now about 95% matched to the Alphasim P-47s strength.

    Fdg2_p-47d-23.zip FDG2 P-47D

According to USAAF records only 0.7% of all P-47s in service during WWII did not return to base. Phenomenal record.
The JUG was a tough ole bird. The engine had increased armor, the pilot sat in a bullet resistant "bathtub" with a bulletproof plate behind his seat.
Basically the only weakness was in the oil cooling system.

The P-47 was legendary for its tough construction and large, armored cockpit. “Even with its complicated turbo supercharger system, its sturdy airframe and tough radial engine could absorb a lot of damage and still return home,” wrote historian Cornelius Ryan in “A Bridge Too Far.” “Some pilots readily chose to belly-land their burning Thunderbolts rather than risk bailing out; there are instances of P-47s crash-landing after being shot down, hitting trees and absorbing impacts severe enough to snap off wings, tail, and engine, while the pilot escaped with few or no injuries.” (https://nationalinterest.org/blog/th...ill-fear-18145)

I'll get these installed and test them out.

I'm busy changing the air files to match actual fuel capacities.
Changing the aircraft scalars to match performance.
Changing the dp files to match the stall, cruise, max speeds, ceilings, and round impacts and loads.
Many of our aircraft builders fudged on the number of rounds and impact numbers for various MGs.
I'm researching them and modifying them to match what I can find online.

Some gave too many rounds, some not enough rounds.
Some made cannons too robust and MGs not robust enough.
I hate shooting BBs out of an aircraft MG, even if they are overboard on how many BBs I get to shoot.

    You've a big project then.

I expect you just misstated what you meant, but the stall, cruise, max speeds, ceilings are all in the .air file and to a lesser extent, the .cfg file, not the .dp

These are my go to references for gun dp values in case they might be valuable for you and save you some time on research.
