    Exclamation Going to be without my desktop for a day or two (I hope)...

    Hey guys,

    Thank God it's not the heat sync, but either the cooling fan on the back of my PC tower or the fan on the power supply is getting quite loud, so I'm bringing it down to a good friend who will help me take care of this, since I have clumsy hands. Fortunately, I'll still have my laptop, so CFS2 won't be affected. I just won't be able to yak on Skype until I get my tower back.

    No yakin? We will miss you. I hope it's not an expensive task to get your tower back in action.

    Icon9 A common problem

    Yo Rami;

    I had a client once bring me a PC with a very noisy fan.
    How noisy you ask?

    Kinda like standing 10 feet from a B-29 while it warms up all 4 engines.
    THAT kind of noisy!

    There was one cat living in their house ..... wonder where I'm going here?

    Checked & recorded the CPU temp @ 127 C (280 F)
    - the CPU fan was running at max speed

    Took off the case door & removed the CPU fan and found the trouble.

    Cat hair, lint & dust had formed a "mattress" between the CPU fan and the top of the CPU heat sink blocking the airflow.

    Cleaned it out; temp & fan speed returned to normal.

    Always a good idea every spring: take the sides off your PC, drag it outside & blow it clean with a can or two of compressed air.

    I install a desktop CPU temp. monitor on every PC I build. (only works in Win 7 & 8 - no longer in Win 10 and is freeware)
