    Congrats Sylvain et al!

    You and your team have done a superb job. It was a pleasure to have had some last minute input - thanks for that opportunity.

    Many thanks!

    Daniel

    WTG guys! I'm definitely downloading and flying this when I get home from work. I think we've all been looking forward to this release for a long time. Thanks to the team for all of their hard work in making this happen.

    This is big and somewhat unexpected news! I had long worried the project might have died (as many often do). Sylvain, I know this has been a long road to get this model out and I know some of us kept inquiring fairly frequently (maybe even nagging asking how close it was to being done), but to you and all involved, a huge Thank You and Congratulations is in order! Now I am going to get the Crusader installed and take my long awaited first test flight!

    This F-8 Crusader is simply a work of art, no finer F-8 model ever made before now for any FS platform. Looks great, flies great. It's a keeper!

    The Crusader is beautiful! Thanks to everyone involved with this. I will have to see if I can trap aboard a bird farm soon!

    Question: is it possible for me to adjust the wingfold animation speed in the aircraft.cfg file? Just wondering. Although I briefly did work on F-8s, it was only on the egress system, and being at Pax River, I don't recall ever seeing the wings folded.

    Thanks again!! NC

    Hi Chief,
    Yes you can modifiy the aircraf.cfg to change the winflod animation speed.
    Look at the bottom of the file for "folding wings" block:

    [folding_wings]
    wing_fold_system_type=4 ;0=None
    fold_rates=0.52,0.51 ;Percent per second

    By the way, we put a paintkit on our web site! It's quite big but you'll have materials to play with!!
    Regards,
    S.

    Very nice shots StormILM. She is a beauty to fly and look at.

    Check out the French cockpit as well. Some differences between the clock location and the armament panel.

    Sylvain and the crew at RFN did an amazing job as always.

    Very nice Jan! For any repainters looking to do F-8 paints, here are color plates from one of my personal books, F-8 Crusader Units of the Vietnam War:

    If there is one particular repaint I hope to see done, it's VMF-325 ("Bozo" Nose scheme).

    I think the Bozo scheme is going to be the default DCS F-8 scheme Storm!

    Unless they changed their mind, when Leatherneck Simulations announced they would be doing a Crusader for DCS it was going to be an F-8J.
    They seem to be researching it a lot so I doubt they would apply an F-8E scheme from VMF-235 to it. But the repainters certainly can.
    Is someone else making one as well?

  19. #19
    The only DCS F-8 build is from Leatherneck and it is an F-8J. There has been a bit of consternation over this as it would seem to be more practical (common) to go with an F-8E but it's their call. There is an A-7E coming as well from a different DCS dev. Either way, we will have two of the finest F-8 models made for flight sims to use for years to come. For now, I'm grateful to have this beauty and have had a blast with it.

    Absolutely! This is a real gem.

    I did this (VMF-235 Bozo) for the Alphasim Crusader many years ago. Planning to put it on this one. Eventually...!!!

    VMF235 was on my to-do list as well, together with quite a few others..

    Looks great Jankees! Here are some links to many of the scheme's I would love to see, including some already noted above;

    Then, when you guys have completed those, I could go for some what if paint schemes as well. I love everything Gekko has done. I would love to see some of his A-4 scheme's on Dino's A-4 and TA-4. He only made one F-8 scheme, linked below. But he made a whole bunch of A-7 scheme's that could be adopted to the F-8. Just saying.
