Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.
Thank's Mike for the advice, stands true. I know I have no chance in "turn & burn" against the Mig17. At least below 450
knots. Historically, this is the case. Over 450 knots, Crusader could turn better / tighter than the Mig though. But this was
dew to factors that are not simulated (Mig pilots, dew to lack of hudraulic help compared to F-8, they just couldn't pul back the stick
to follow the Gs that F-8 pilots could achieve, dew to that technology difference).
The plane you see engaging at level plane, is the AI F-8 (my wingman). I tried for low yo-yos, but doesn't work. But I certainly realized
how critical the fuel managment is with jets during Air combat. So much that I added a "Bingo fuel" voice over trigger from RIO in my
Top Gun Libya mission I published, when fuel lower than 17%.
Chance given, for people interested, here is a video explaining much of what I wrote above, featuring two Vietnam air combats in 1967 that
Crusaders took part, escorting A-4s., from History channel :
panel effect testing, under sufaces tomorow, and through we'll be.
xpelekis, did you do a basic Tacpack mod for the guns? Just completed my 1st fam flight last night in P3D, impressive.

expat, I reread your last couple posts, and noticed you are using the "." (brakes) key to turn on your AP. When I was flying mine, I used the "z" key. I have rudder pedals, so don't have the "." key mapped. I wonder if maybe you are turning it off & on each time you use your brakes, or, if your "." key is intermittent on your keyboard. Try using the "z" key instead. Just a suggestion...

I just used Corrado's tmap mod, copy/pasting from there, panel folder, tacpack inis and Aircraft.cfg entries to a new "F-8 Crusader Tacpacked" folder.
Easiest & fastest way to add Tacpack functionality in any plane.
Impresssive indeed. Cockpit reminds somewhat the one of SWS F-4B Phantom. I would only expect somewhat better turning abilities
for America's best dogfighter of her time. My feeling is that she could pull more G load in RL compared with this simulation, but don't really
know...
Thanks guys.
Z = AP master toggle (repeat slider in middle; not trigger on release)
"."" = main brakes
Button 1 = main brakes
Ctrl + "." = parking brake
all working normally
AP working normally in other aircraft
Am getting AP activation (yellow light and then everything hunky dory) still only intermittently. Last test I 1) switched AP toggle to on (AP armed) then tried various pressing of "Z" or "." and sometime putting the parking brake on and off then reycle these steps. No yellow light. What is weird is I then went and e.g., played with the radar and then when I panned in the VC back saw the yellow light had come on somehow. Will now test to see any correlation with the radar operation. I think my "Z" or "." command is in conflict with something.
Also: in the F-8, each time I press "Z" I hear the AP disconnect warning sound. This is not right. You should hear every other time as this should toggle the AP both off and on. In other a/c it works normally. Also: when I load the Gunfighter in the P3D window a) I see the aieleroons up and down (suggests AP already on - not normal loading other a/c) and b) I hear a loud distinct "click" sound the same as when trying to switch the right console AP Alt hold switch - which usually immediately flicks back to "off" making that sound.
Grateful for eveyone's help and patience on this!

the lascars are back in town, and ready to fly !
so 8 and 32 line, 10 and 35 special.
Sent to test . job done!
Oh yeah!! Jankees you do exactly the ones I would do if I could paint - thanks!

I figured VMF-312 would come up as a popular one.
This one would make my day: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vought..._(cropped).jpg
VMF-212 150912. I understand their helmets were a matching French blue too - very snappy.
Can anyone explain the wing leading edge droop? the checklist mentions cruise settings among others.
I don't know why but it is very difficult to get more than mach 1.2 or 1.4 out of it and I was wondering if it was a LE droop issue.
I see no control for them.
Another small bug with engine smoke : When at 50% throttle, brown smoke puffs
appear at 3 o'clock of aircraft at sea/ground, apart of engine'sd echaust, about 800m away of pilot.
Specially visible when you fly very low like taking off from carrier and make a left turn.
They also cause some FPS drop (FSX).
