Thread: RFN F-8 Crusader is out!!

Great looking paints guys! I have been out of the loop since 3/29 when I posted a VF-194 paint I was working on. I've gotten back to painting after a difficult 3.5 weeks. I was the sole care giver for my mother who sadly passed away last Tuesday at the age of 86. Painting aircraft is a nice diversion from dealing with wrapping up my mother's affairs in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. That being said. Here is a paint of an F-8E of the VF-33 Tarsiers. I have to get it and the VF-194 packed up and uploaded. Hopefully tomorrow or Sunday.

So sorry to hear of your loss, Mike. I lost my aunt to the virus, but I still can’t imagine.

    Lovely paints.

Just downloaded these two. They both seem OK now. Marbles appear to have been found!!

Mike, I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I was in a not-dissimilar situation 20 years ago. You have my deepest sympathy.

    Stay safe all.

    Question Reply...

    Mike,

You also have my sincerest sympathies on the loss of your mom.

    DaveQ, Duckie, and other uploaders...

I am more than a little confused by the recent rash of 1.0 and 1.1 repaint uploads, and have seen updates of this and that. Am I to assume that the 1.0 repaints are no longer valid?

    1) If so, should they be removed?

    2) If not, have, or can the original 1.0 repaints be upgraded to 1.1 standard so I can get rid of, apply, or consolidate the fixes and updates?

I figured I'd ask before I touched anything...just in case the plate is still hot.

    Rami,

The version 1.0 and version 1.1 repaints as published are NOT cross compatible in their original forms. Different models and 2 specific textures differ between them. Aircraft config entries and texture patches are required for the 1.0 version repaints to be used with the later 1.1 Version. 1.1 version textures are not backward compatible without similar modifications. I have 4 v1.0 repaints that now have a patch available to make them forward compatible. To me it was easier and less complicated to issue one patch than to go back and fix 4 individual repaints which would then require the users to redownload each repaint rather than 1 patch. Although I can’t imagine why anyone would not want the updated version 1.1 but both versions are still out there so to eliminate the original repaints would limit those users who might still prefer the older version.

Just MHO. Let me know what you want me to do.

    Wot he said...!!

I agree with Duckie. I think (at least for now) the original texture sets should remain in the library as the base textures, especially since there are known issues with v1.1 in FSX. Only the textures relating to the front fuselage required changing. I've done a bit of upgrading of additional textures as well, which are included in my update zip.

Leave the v1.0 textures in the catalog. It is only when you remove all pylons in the configuration that there is a visual issue.

If repainters want to issue replacements either as an update pack of just new "Fuselage1_T" and ""Fuselage1_Spec" files or entire v1.1 repaints then that is great.

Maybe in the latter case expand the Readme file to cover both versions?

Ideally going forward new repaints will indicate what version the textures were painted for either in the download filename but especially in the readme file.

    Duckie et al,

If you guys already understand this system and what goes with what, I'm inclined to leave well enough alone. I'm just glad I asked first.

This one is almost done. Whew! That left forward fuselage is a killer! Took me a day and 1/2 to get an aft "NUT" I could live with! Several other things I'll leave to our rivet counters (I'm one!) to find. Should have it up loaded by tomorrow night.

    Hi guys,
The known issue on the left side of the fuselage is now fixed and it doesn't impact textures: only the mdl files where some polygons were corrupted. I'm working on a v1.2 that will provide the fixed mdls but with no impact on textures.
As Frank said the main change in textures between V1.0 and V1.1 is the fuselage pylons shadows that need to be removed from Fuselage1_T files (ambiant and specular) if you don't want to see these shadows when you're flying with a clean configuration.
In the V1.2 I'm workign on, I'll add Zuni configuration layouts, sonic barrier effects, starter sounds (thanks Butch!) and minors changes into the VC, so it will certainly just impacts mdls, gauges and some shared/global textures. I'll checked but if guys are interested in I will post here the few lines that you will have to add into the Aircraft.cfg in order to keep your current and customized one.

    Regards,
    Sylvain

Thanks Sylvain. I’ll wait before I publish the VF-111 CAG if you have fixed the distortion around the upper folding step on the left side. The “Double Nuts” on the left side has quite a bit of manipulation that probably won’t work if that area has been corrected.

    Thanks again for this model,

    Hi Steve,
To fix this "shadowing issue", I had just redone some polygons as they were : no impact on the mapping neither texture. So your textures will fit exactly the same with the corrected mdl.

    Sylvain

Blown fuse, Chief? Were the lights working in a lower P3D version?

Silly question, but you're remembering to throw the master exterior light circuit switch on over on the left side of the cockpit as well, not just the individual light switches on the right, correct?

The master ext light switch (just fwd of the landing light switch) is on left side, on a bracket parallel to the canopy rail. Shown on p.14 of the manual, switch # 9 - needs to be in the fwd position.

I'm running the latest version in P3DV4.5 and as of last night, and since day one of the first release, all lights have worked fine.
