    FSX/P3D JBK V3 DC-4 Airtanker Repaint Pack.zip

    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category P3D / P4D Add-Ons - Other aircraft

Description: This repaint pack is for the FSX V3 JBK DC-4 pack, the airtanker version specifically. I have also included a link below for the P3D v4 compatible versions, (all models are included in that link including freighter, airliner, and airtanker versions) FSX base version is needed in order to update them to P3D v4. These repaints will work in both the FSX and the P3D updated versions. This pack represents 6 operators and 10 different liveries. 4 aircraft for Aero Union. 2 From Aero-Flite. 1 from Ardco. 1 from California National (Cal Nat). 1 for Buffalo Airways. Lastly, 1 for TBM Inc. I doubt they will work on the FS2004 aircraft, but that hasn't been tested. The Douglas DC-4 or C-54 Skymaster served for decades as an airtanker in not only the United States, but Canada as well. The DC-4 series of aircraft's career as an airtanker saw an end due to changes in government policy rather than the aircraft's age. The shear amount of surplus aircraft made maintaining the aircraft all the way into the early 2000s a maintainable operation for a number of large and small operators of the DC-4 platforms. Unfortunately, those changes in contracting the DC-4s forced many of those small operators to close their doors or diversify their fleets. Sadly, most could not survive the sudden shift in policy of the USFS. Many DC-4s were converted back to freighters and sold off in such fashion or were sold as scrap. The DC-4 was a niche large airtanker, filling the the gaps of the larger series tankers like the P-3 Orion or P-2 Neptune. The DC-4 could carry between 2,000 and 2,300 gallons depending on the version. A small number of "Super" DC-4s existed with larger engines, but not many stayed in service. The DC-4s could operate on shorter runways that the Neptunes and Orions and similar category aircraft were simply not allowed to. After 2008, not many airtanker versions remained, the last remaining aircraft were sold to Buffalo Airways. Where now, sadly, most of those aircraft are in long term storage in Hay River, NWT. Likely to never fly again. Ironically, most of the DC-4s flying today were airtankers, and are likely to be the only reason why flying examples of the aircraft still exist. Many are still being used as rural freighters.
