    Cutting down distance seeing objects

    Anyone know how I can cut down the range at which these searchlights are visible? I am assuming they weren't turned on until aircraft were within a reasonable distance. I have already shortened the to OuterDistance="5000"> but can still see them well over 8nm away.

    Well if the searchlights are a gun then you can limit the range in the gun's xdp file. Or on second thoughts, they will still fire if there is another aircraft up ahead of you. What about the effects lines in the effects xml? See if there is a range parameter you can shorten?

    Thanks. I'll play around a bit with your ideas. If there is another ac in front that's not an issue.

    You can hide inactive searchlights with an edit to the d3d8.ini - look for this section:

    ; Set to 1 to hide searlight beams pointing directly upwards for some time (as in WOTR)
    HideInactiveSearchlights=0

    and change the 0 to a 1.

    Thanks Dan. I'll give that a try as your lights!

    Well I did that but I'm not sure a big difference. Also I thought I had a way to make the night darker as with this shaders d3d8.ini it seems quite bright (although it maybe hard to see in this pic). Someone did suggest some changes before on a previous version, but I forget what they were.
