Hex editing? Is there a place in the m3d file that one can edit to get rid of the excess shine. In particular the 3gb bf110s are an issue. But general help is appreciated.

Major Magee has a few helpful posts in the knowledge base sticky that are more up to date.
You could try replacing the *_s.dds file with something done in darker grays.
In Photoshop I often reset the levels to stay within a range of 10-50, and that typically keeps the luminosites well below the 16% grey level that makes bare metal look like it's been polished.

The stuff by Corrado in the Knowledgebase Sticky also throws some light on hex editing the m3d for shine IIRC...
will try to mess around with the *_s.dds file and if all else fails into the hex edit realm...
