K6090 of 23 ERFTS,Rochester, 1939


The Elementary and Reserve Flying Training Schools were set up between 1923 and 1939, contracting civilian companies to provide basic flying training to prospective RAF Aircrew and reservists, at the onset of WW2 in Sept 1939 , these schools were disbanded and absorbed into RAF training organisation as Elementary Flying Training Schools.

Fresh from #1 FTS at RAF Netheravon, K6090 was allocated to 23 ERFTS at Rochester, under the custodianship of Short Bros; known to have crashed in Dartford Creek on or about Jan 31st 1939, there being several photos' showing it upside down in the creek with a broken wing.

23 ERFTS was amalgamated with similarly Short Bros run 24 ERFTS , becoming 24 EFTS at Sydenham, Belfast, on 3 Sept 1939
