    Merlin2 Beaufort Mk1-t revised UT.zip

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British

Description: Merlin2 Bristol Beaufort Mk1-t revised by UncleTgt

This is a revision of the Bristol Beaufort model series made by Merlin2 for CFS 2. This pack depicts the mk1-b. I used MDLmat & DosMDLCv2 to give the model some shine, better coloured aircrew lifevests, plus improve the glass transparency & colour, prop disks etc.

The 2D panel bitmap has been made WIN7+ safe, & the definition of the VC instruments has been improved.

The .dp file has been given historically accurate payload options, & the damage effects, hitpoints & AI gun performance tweaked to give a better combat experience. As the airfile was developed by Jerry Beckwith, the only thing I adjusted was to lower the elevator authority somewhat, to try to make it less fighter-like when engaged. I changed the aircraft family from 4 to 5 (more a G4M2 Betty than a TBF Avenger), but this has not been tested extensively in missions.

The sounds are aliased to the C47 Dakota.

The textures offered are: N1016 OA-X 22 squadron St Eval April 1941. Flown by Flight Officer Kenneth Campbell VC during his attack on Gniesenau in Brest harbour, 6th April 1941.

L4445 of the Torpedo Development Unit, Gosport, December 1939

To use the provided .dp file that depicts more historically authentic weapons and payloads, the following weapons packs are required...

Baldy Mk VII depth charge: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=17&id=6687

    Shessi 250lb depth charge: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=17&id=22592

    Hudson weapons package: https://www.virtualwings.org/downloa...apons_v099.zip

Beaufighter weapons: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=50&id=6860 (You don't need the aircraft, just the weapons)

    FDG weapons: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=17&id=5273

    Groundcrew British weapons: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=17&id=4398

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS2 install.

Thanks to Merlin2 for the original multi-LOD Beaufort.

Kelticheart for his prop bitmaps & exhaust effects.

This is freeware and subject to the usual conditions

What a lovely bunch. Thanks John!

I've always had a soft spot for these models but your reworking of their textures has really lifted them to another level altogether.

    Hi UncleTgt
As usual, your work is outstanding.
    Thanks for these.
Thanks to Merlin 2 for the original and thanks Rami for the sound file link.

Beaufort was not really the most famous plane of WW2 but you did a lot to put it among the first in CFS2!!

  16. #16
Thanks for the nice comments, but the real credit is for Merlin2. It's hard to believe, but this series of models were originally created way back in 2004!

I thought they scrubbed up pretty good... Just shows what a slap of paint & some TLC can achieve ...

    UT,

I add my belated thanks! Wonderful work as always.

Got a question. Am I right in thinking that all of the AC have a total 4 texture files?

    Cheers and Thanks!

Yep MR, just the 4 external texture sheets. Everything else is coloured materials (prop disks, blades, crew etc.), hence me tweaking with Martin Wright's MDLmat

    Hi Uncle Tgt,
The torpedo Beaufort behaves beautifully when sent in against axis tankers and looks great from a distance as well as up close. Could you post the plain (roundels only) textures/ templates to help with hand edited missions?
I'm sure Merlin2 would be pleased to see what you have done with his Beauforts.

Yes I know this probably seems a tad anal, but I though it was worth pointing out.

As far as I can make out, included in UT's latest releases are around 42 permutations of the Bristol Beaufort!

    Not too shabby, eh?

Here is a list of all the AC I ended up with (showing the folder names I gave them). It is alphabetical as far as the make and mod are concerned. Beyond that it is a tad less well sorted
