    My CFS2's won't work anymore

    Hi all,

Since today all my 3 copies of CFS2 (WW1, WW2 and SCW) won't run anymore, always get the message "failed to initialize etc.". Tried the start files from a working copy on a HD (kept the normally working scenery.cfg), didn't work. And yes, all my planes have panels and sounds and are < than 30.

    Suggestions more than welcome!

Aircraft, Object DP, and Ship caps is first thing to come to mind. I would start by moving things to a temp folder tell CFS2 starts working again than slowly add back tell you can find what is causing CFS2 to not work right.

    Hertzie,

Since your installs last worked, what have you added or changed?

    Hey Hertzie,

When you say, "Tried the start files from a working copy on a HD," I'm guessing you mean you have a "clean" install somewhere else other than where you have the three mods, is that correct? If so, then you have any of a possible four (4) installations that don't work, is that correct?

I'm just trying to make sure we have a good understanding of your setups so we can try and give better responses. If you indeed have a fourth install that is a master, then I'm afraid I'm not sure what the issue could be. It's not that often you hear of an issue on the master and the mods.

If you don't have a master, I would suggest making one. Mine doesn't even have the "no-cd" patch and has helped me out a few times already.

......this is a off the wall but happened to me along time ago. Check that your files read CFG and NOT CGF. Long time ago something like this happened that kept changing some of the cfg's to cgf. Especially check the CFS2.cfg
Another suggestion is to copy and paste in a new CFS2.cfg without changing the name. GOOD LUCK.

    Hi Guys,

First: THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT. MUCH APPRECIATED !!!!!

Then: the problem(s) is/are in my OBJECTS_DP folder. To make a short story long :-), I did a fresh CFS2 install on a separate drive, decided to start with my SCW-CFS2 first, changed or put in all necessary folders or files and discovered the main issue: the OBJECTS_DP-folder. Then I managed to have my WW1-CFS2 running again, but when I try to start the free flight, I still get the message-error about initialising etc.. But when I click ok and then try to start for the 2nd time: IT WORKS. So I put my WW1 OBJECTS_DP-folder into my new CFS2-SCW and then I have the same: first time no go, second time it's running. So I copied the original obj.dp-folder into the new cfs2-scw obj.dp-folder, let it overwrite the files and then cut them out, so now I have at least the obj-dp-folder where the problematic file(s) must be in. Then I took it out and put the original obj-dp-folder in, went to an SCW-airfield and let it run. It starts without any problem, till it needs the necessary things for THAT scenery and I get messages of missing objects. I write down what is missing, go looking for that in my non-working obj-dp-folder and copy them in the working SCW. That agains starts normal, but I still get the message that there are files missing in "the library", though I know that I have put that DP's in the obj-dp-folder. So these dp's must be ok, but there is a library somewhere where they should be in to be recognised, I suppose. So you know how far I did come, hope you have suggestions how to solve THAT problem: WHERE is the library?? Or are the dp's NOT ok??

For Huub: Win7 Professional. And yes, a clear copy of CFS2 with the crack exe.-file runs without any problem.

Safe landings for all of you,

    hertzie.

OBJECTS_DP folder has a limit to the numbers of DPs that it can have just like aircraft and ships. I think it may be around 1900 for DPs but I'm not sure.

    Hertzie...........

...do you have anything aliased? With the adding and moving around maybe some of your drive designations have changed and you were unaware of it.
If you have the Quick Combat editor installed, open it up and click on a theater then see what the designation of the game drive is . I had just did some maintenance on my rig to clean it up, and in the restart, the drive designation(external) where the game is had changed. Result was the game would start but then "Failed to blah...blah...blah..." Changed it back and the game works fine

    Hi Rami,

Please explain to me what you mean by "what else?" Aircraft? Gauges? Sounds?

In the GSL-folder I have some SCW-gobs and in the Layout-folder some SCW-layouts. And in the Uires-folder SCW-uires.

    Hetzie,

Windows10 has some hidden surprises, therefore I thought this might cause your problem. Windows7 doesn't have these surprises (at least I can't remember).

I think Rami means: "Do you have any additional scenery installed next to the SCW Bases?" (Or do you perhaps use enhanched textures?)

    Cheers,
    Huub

    Hertzie,

Sorry, was out with the kiddos most of the day playing dad. (I taught my youngest daughter how to flip pancakes, and collapsed with laughter when one landed on her face...) What I am asking is....if your object count is that high....what campaigns have you installed or what scenery packages have installed?

In addition....how many aircraft do you have in your sim, including repaints? What about ships?

If it's a dedicated SCW install, this should be pretty easy to lock down. If you have multiple theatres installed into one sim, it could be a case of needing a separate install because there is no more room in the inn.

    Thanks, Huub!

    Hi Huub, hi Rami,

What I have installed in my AddOn more than SCW-scenery is DEM4,7 & 8. But so far my new installed CFS2-SCW works ok except from messages I get at almost every airfield I try is that I am missing a lot of objects in the library: af_sm_rvtmntl_grnlog/-sandlog, or af_ammobunker_lg/-sm or inf_large_pier_depot/-pier, inf_crane_1 etc.

I am now into my huge CFS2 library files and install one by one all things that might be usefull in CFS2-SCW and hope that the missing object files are there. Keeps me "off the street" :-) as we say in Holland. I am looking for Maskriders objects, but so far didn't find them.

    Suggestions still welcome!!

    Hertzie,

There should be a readme in that download which includes hyperlinks...I just checked the SCW airfield package and it has a .rtf (rich text file, a word document) that has hyperlinks to all of the files you need, including links to the files on MaskRider's website.

    Rami,
Will let you know tomorrow. So far everything I could get installed makes CFS2-SCW works ok, but still get messages about missing objects. If I put in my old objects_dp-folder CFS2-SCW won't start, so the problem is definitely in the objects_dp-folder. The old one is too big and the new one is missing some objects. Am working throug my library files, never give up, you know :-).

    Hertzie,

You must have a very old version of the SCW airfields, because the links in the current readme have absolutely no reference to Lindsay Watt's old website.

I just checked the links on this version within the last few minutes.

Here is the current package with the updated readme...

    Hi Rami,

I downloaded and installed everything as it should. So far everything works ok, but I still have missing objects in the Gibraltar and Casablanca scenery, for example.

    Hi Rami,

Thanks for the links! I've downloaded and put in everything and so far my CFS2-SCW (the new AND the old one) runs ok.

For some airfields I'm only missing a torpedo-net or balloons, so maybe you know where I can find them? But I can live without .

And now I can go on with my WW1.

    Again, many thanks!!

    Hi all,

Though my CFS2-problems are solved, I think that Allen has the real solution: there is a maximum for the OBJECTS_DP-folder. It was too big in all my 3 CFS2's. I'm now trying to find out what is the maximum amount of DP's that you can have and get no error-message. I'll let you know what comes out.

Again many thanks for all the help and support, with a big "hats-off" for Rami.

    hertzie.
