    Yorktown Class Carriers in WWII

Next to come ---- the Yorktown class carriers USS Yorktown (CV-5), USS Enterprise (CV-6) and the USS Hornet (CV-8)

The Yorktown class was a class of three aircraft carriers built for the United States Navy and completed shortly before World War II. They immediately followed Ranger, the first U.S. aircraft carrier built as such, and benefited in design from experience with Ranger and the earlier Lexington class, which were conversions into carriers of two battlecruisers that were to be scrapped to comply with the Washington Naval Treaty, an arms limitation accord.
These ships bore the brunt of early action in the Pacific War, and two of the three were lost: Yorktown, sunk at the Battle of Midway, and Hornet, sunk in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.
Enterprise, the sole survivor of the class, was the most decorated ship of the U.S. Navy in the Second World War. After efforts to save her as a museum ship failed, she was scrapped in 1958

The USS Hornet get very famos for the first attack onto the Japan homeland... the Doolittle Raid. One version of the upcoming carriers will show the ship for this raid.

So.... take an Army Bomber.... land it on the carrier (in real the plane where putt on deck with a crane in harbor) and try to start it from the very short deck of the hornet.

    First pictures....

Really great, Klaus! The pictures are super. Did you lighten the bomber and add wind down the deck?

    Hi Klaus,

All your ships are very beautiful.
    I have never ships installed.
Is AI carriers needed to show up in FSX?

Are shippingroutes for these ships installed?

Very nice Klaus. I have Hornet in the paint shop giving her the measure 12 paint scheme she wore during the Doolittle raid.
Meanwhile somewhere in the Coral Sea... Shokaku, Zuikaku and escorts.

Klaus, just love your ships. My "oceans" are filled with them, excellent job! Question - do any of your carriers; CV/CVE/CLE, have any stack smoke visible? I've looked in the sim. cfgs and can't find any input. Am I missing something? Thanks, Rob

Cats included in the Yorktown models?

    Hi Klaus,

first I want to speak out a big "Thank You" for all these great carriers and other ships, you´ve made available for us for zero bucks - this all in a "highspeed" process...When i´ve installed a carrier and started to play ... the next new one was turning the corner...

    Okay, I have two questions:

    1. The real Yorktown carriers have two cats on the bow section - Are they animated in your models? (I´ve tried to use the common buttons to start from the indicated pionts but wasn´t successful... ).

    2. A point which really belongs to another thread: Is there a possibilty that you will optimize your published modern carriers and destroyers of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...ighlight=JMSDF). They need a lot of ressources and/or do not work in my FSX (... and other users too I believe).

Thank you in advance for a short feedback...

    Many greetings

    RS

    Hi Claus,

I suggest that you have notseen my question from December 9th?

How works the install of your ships in FSX

  11. #11
Yes you need 'aicarriers' or similar to use them. You will need to create a .cfg file in 'Programs(x86)/aicarriers/conf'd/' with the titles of the ships (from their 'sim.cfg' files) as the units.

You will need to install AiCarriers2.net to get them to show. You can download it here: http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/ind...?topic=11293.0
And make sure to read the instructions on how to install and use it.

    RS,

The port side cat works with no problem. But can not get starboard side to work. Have this same problem with the Saratoga/Lexington. I'm working on finding out what the problem is.

    Hi Butcherbird,

thanks for your reply. TARPSBIRD informed me too about these moody cats... I will try it again...
It would really be nice for all of us to hear again from you - may be with a solution for more purring cats on Walter´s carriers...

Similar to AI Carriers - SWS Fleet placer

    Hi LANGEREIS,

yes "AI carriers" is needed .. and it´s free...

Another option to place Walter´s and other carriers, ships or objects (may be Walters Apollo capsule or a rescue swimmer for winch operations or...) could be the similar SWS Fleetplacer (it´s only one part of the SWS "Midway Battlegroup" Addon (Payware).

The advantage of this ship placer tool (my opinon):

    More comfortable commands:

-> simple alignment of a carrier into the wind (under consideration of a hatchdeck) per button when you approach to trap
-> control of the ship/fleet/formation speed
-> If needed then change of course of the whole fleet/formation without changing the spatial arrangement of the ships (i.e. the ships retain their relative positions in the formation)
-> you can warp your aircraft to a selected parking place on a ship in the formation, if parking spaces are available on the ship (Otherwise you can create a parking places...)

But ai carriers is also a good and free choice, which I use additionally (... to place and to control for example an american ship formation with SWS and a japanese formation with air carriers simultaneous...
It´s also possible to install ai carriers as a second instance - to control an independent second formation.

    This for your information

    Greetings RS

Another thing to check is that the aircraft has the "Launch Assistance" added to the aircraft.cfg. Otherwise it will not hook up to the cat.

On the Saratoga/Lexington front. Even though the texture for the deck shows the cats, that is for the refit that Sara got in late 44. Neither
carriers had that capability in the 30's or early 40's.

    Good idea Butcherbird 17!

I checked my SBD Dauntless - it has no "Launch Assistence" section in the aircraft.cfg. An old thread here on SOH shows parameters for this bird from BRUCE448:

    [launch_assistance]
    launch_bar_pivot = 2.41,0.00,-1.3
    launch_bar_lug = 7.083333,0.00,-5.50

I will use them this evening...

True, though LEX/SARA were actually built with one F-MKI Norden flywheel cat. However they were of little use due to their capability and were removed soon after they became operational.

TF 17 R. Adm. Frank Jack Fletcher aboard flagship USS Yorktown after hasty repairs at Pear Harbour, along with the rest of TF 17, steaming SW to link up with Adm. Spruance aboard USS Enterprise with USS Hornet and TF 16 somewhere NE of Midway, Is.

In view are USS Yorktown (CV-5) , cruiser USS Astoria (CA-34), and destroyers USS Hammann (DD-412), USS Anderson (DD-411), USS Morris (DD-417), and USS Russell (DD-413).

Not in view to starboard and aft is the cruiser USS Portland (CA-33) and destroyer USS HUGHES (DD-410).

Unfortunately I couldn't find any DD's of the propper class to use. All 5 in the TF at this point were Simms class.

Steve are you looking for this. "DD-409 USS Sims" I have it but not in sim yet.

Also did a quick paint for an Enterprise F6F from VF-20. That is the CL-144 USS Worcester in the back ground.
I have her cruising with Big E for aa support.

Thanks Joe. Actually the DDs in my screen shot are all Fletchers. I couldn’t find any Simms or any single stack DDs. The cruisers are from Yanco’s Midway group.

Joe, that Simms looks GREAT and it is definitely required for Midway. 5 out of 6 of the screen destroyers for Yorktown were Simms class. The visual models of Klaus’ CVs and your Simms are outstanding. Thank y’all very much.
