Hello folks,
I've been painting two Boeing B-17 E assembly ships to be used with the FDG2 B-17E.
41-9020 on Apr 18, 1943 became target tug ship for 303rd BG as "Phyllis"
aka "Tugboat Annie". Crash landed at Molesworth, England Jul 23, 1944
41-9020, formerly "Phyllis" of the 340th BS 97th BG. "Phyllis" started
flying missions in 1942 and is known for being photographed with massive
tail damage after making it safely back to base.
She was later transferred to the 92nd and then the 303rd BG, where she was
called "Tugboat Annie" and became their assembly ship and a group "hack."
The aircraft was salvaged on 27 July 1945 after an accidental wheels-up
landing during a cross country trip rom Molesworth to Kingscliffe on 23 July.
Paintig based upon a 1/72 kit pictures plus one picture found on the net:
9100 "Birmingham Blitzkrieg", 97th BG, 414th BS, flown on first 8th AF mission
in Europe in Aug 17, 1942.
Aircraft was transferred to 92nd BG at Bovington Aug 24, 1942; transferred to
Combat Crew Replacement Center (CCRC) at Bovington; transferred to 379th BG,
525th BS at Kimbolton and used as a formation aircraft during assembly for
target; transfered to the RAF at Clunto 8-Feb-44.
Texture based upon a model kit plus some pictures of the original aircraft, including this colour picture.
In both cases, I could not erase the various machine guns and turrets, because they are part of the MDL file.
Sorry... The only compensation is a modification of the DP file to cancel the GUNSTATIONS and PAYLOADS section.
Comments are welcome, upload is on its way
