    Scenery/infrastructure auto package installers?

After all these years.. I just wondered. Has anyone maintained and compiled any scenery packages with the last recommended file versions? (Rhumbafloppy, Maskrider, infrastructures.. )? Just to make it a little easier to set up CFS2 from scratch.

And then..what about f.ex. Rami's campaigns? Any autoinstallers? (Like the old RAAF campaign by Alsina/Amodea)

    Morton,

While you still need the LOD mesh layers for maximum results, the auto-installers you asked about do install between 95 and 98% of what you need for any campaign set that has them. All aircraft have their panels, sounds, and weapons so you don't have to hunt them down, and all ships are included as well, aside from anything that Lindsay Watt or Tango Romeo a hand in designing.

Since you mentioned the 75th RAAF campaign, that has been included as part of this campaign package.

You can also download them from my box.net site, which has links under my signature. If you run into any bandwith issues when downloading, let me know.

Here is the PTO install guide for scenery: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=49&id=6050

Note: It is highly recommended that you NOT install the new Rhumba watermasks, because they will wreck havoc on airfields near the coast. Only a few specific airfields are designed to work with these new watermasks; the scenery you're installing is not among them.

Thanks Rami for the prescriptions . I used the CFS2 only sporadic in the last years so I'm not sure of the status of my installation. So this comes in very handy.

To make it clear.. the different campaigns from SOH/your Box all will install most of the things needed like Maskriders bases, GSL's etc.? (except the LOD mesh/ PacTex)
Does it mean the campaign installers will just overwrite a lot of the already installed common scenery and bases everytime?

    Morton,

    1) Yes.

    2) Yes, they are designed to be installed in a stand-alone install. However, if you install them to a folder on your desktop, you can integrate them into an existing install. The 75th Squadron and Papua New Guinea campaigns, for example, share almost identical scenery, because the latter is almost an extension of the other.

One of the things to keep in mind is that I use aircraft with specific theatre-themed skins, as well as ships, so you have to watch that a/c and ship count.

    Morton,

I’m on an all-day road trip to New Hampshire and Maine to explore the foliage, and won’t be back until at least dinner time.

Hopefully Maskrider or others will answer before I get home.

    Also, Morton,

    WRT
There's no conflicts with campaigns or other stuff if I install the lastest versions of Maskraiders available stuff?
I couldn't tell ya for sure. Sorry.

    MR

BTW: For some reason the forum isn't allowing me to edit my posts at the moment. When I click on "edit post" all I get is a blank, virgin window to type in. No biggie. It seems to happen from time to time.

    Hi Morton,

Completely off topic, but could you tell me whether you have an active page with all you wonderful repaints available?

    Thanks,

    Morton,

    1) Woah, let's pump the brakes here, my dear friend.

    2) Technically, I didn't write this, I signed off on Dvslats modifying my ETO version, and this was before we really discovered all the issues with Rhumba's new watermasks, as well as UncleTgt's newer scenery packages, and MaskRider reworking some of his older ones to fit the new watermasks.

Perhaps I should get around to writing another one soon, but with four kids approaching their teenage years, being in grad school, having a mother go through a kidney transplant, and my own upheaval having to fly out to Minnesota for surgeries a few times a year, extra time is hard to come by.

    1) So let's look at this logically. All of my campaigns and missions in the Pacific are designed to work off of the stock coastlines and shorelines in the Pacific, which means that you do not follow the "remove everything except "North.bgl and South.bgl" step. However, you will put in the LOD 5, 7, and 8 layers.

With the #1 option, all of MaskRider's airfield sets (expect for the ones explicitly highlighted in #2) will work, as well as all others in the scenery library for the Pacific, along with these following scenery packages by UncleTgt...

Aleutians UT: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=45&id=3805 (Note, this works with #1 and #2)

    Andaman & Nicobar UT: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=45&id=2184

    Carolines UT: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=45&id=13451

    New Britain UT: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=45&id=16698

    New Ireland UT: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=45&id=17782

    2) If you want to do a "modern" CFS2 Pacific install with the newest scenery, then you do want to follow the "north and south.bgl" step, because you will replace the stock coastlines and land class. However, except for the places where new scenery is specifically designed, you will lose the beaches, and airfields outside of these new scenery areas (including some stock airfields not covered by gavinc) won't work properly.

The only scenery packages specifically designed for the #2 option are as follows...

    2019 DEI package: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=45&id=25248

    2019 Gilbert islands: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=45&id=25225

    Sakishima Gunto: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=45&id=20902

    Gavinc stock airfields: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=45&id=5572

My modifications of the work of Gavinc and Dog1: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=45&id=24360

Hopefully this will help to clear things up a bit.

    Backups ...

    Morton,

Not sure if this helps at all, but I installed a "stock" version of CFS2. I then copied the folder to the same location (C: drive) and labeled it "CFS2 Default" so as to have a "fresh" install all the time as a backup. I didn't even put the "no-cd" patch in that one. The only change I did was to label the executable the same as the folder. That way if I messed something up with another version I was trying to install I could just copy the files from that particular default version over to the one I was messing with. It's what I've done to mess with a pre-war Pacific setup I'm trying to put together.

My hard drive now looks like this: "C:\CFS2_PTO" for the one I'm messing with, and "C:\CFS2_Original" for the "backup" installation.

I also don't have anything installed in default locations either.

I should mention I have a LOAD of hard drive space, so I'm not sure if that would be an option for you just to have some backups of the stock files. I just thought to put it out since I found this "trick" on the forum somewhere.

    Good Luck!
