Initial NTSB news conference on Dale Jr. a/c mishap.

Wow. The plane "appeared to bounce twice" before the impact that collapsed the right main. At 4500 feet, there probably isn't quite enough runway there for that sort of excitement... Glad all aboard got out safe!

Interesting. I remember in 2011 Jimmie Johnson's plane departed the runway I believe in Key West, Florida. What is it with Hendrick and aviation?

I looked it up and N8JR is a Cessna Citation Latitude (680A). The specs indicate a landing distance of 2480 feet, so there should have been more than enough runway for a safe landing. I do not know what the weather conditions were at the time of the attempted landing, but I have to wonder if a wind gust lofted the jet and kept it from touching down at a safe touchdown distance.
