Only when the main strip is down.
Last year the secondary was used for forestry service to fight fires

    Question

    Trucker,

You may or may not know this, but I'm curious. Many years ago, was that airstrip owned by Greg Clayton?

That's a really nice home and surrounds. You are lucky to live in such a beautiful area.
"Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it. The edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground, buildings, sea, trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly there".

I wasn't sure of what to expect when you said "Picts". I was fully expecting your home had been overrun by blue painted Scotsmen.

    Nice place.

    Just A Bit of History

    Trucker,

Even though I'm long in tooth and short on memory, I'm pretty sure that was Greg Clayton's
place back in 1990. His house was just west of the north end of the runway.

On my only trip to Alaska, I had the great good fortune of being introduced to him and
arranged a two hour flight in his Lake amphibian.

We headed south and landed on both of the Blair lakes. From there we headed southwest, then
west down in a canyon. Saw moose on the lakes and Dall sheep along the canyon. From
there we headed north and followed the Wood River to the Chena River, Along those we saw
a huge dredge at an abandoned mining site and were fascinated by the many windmill style
    fish traps along the river.

From there it was east toward Fairbanks, and then followed part of the pipeline south and
    headed back.

It was the most interesting flight I have ever taken!

You're really lucky to live where you do.

    What an amazing place.

    As a footnote:
Clayton's parents played notable roles in Alaskan aviation history. His mother, Virginia
Clayton, was a Navy pilot instructor in the early forties. Nice work for a female in the early
forties. His dad, George Clayton, was actually trained by Virginia and they later married. He made a name for himself as one of Alaska's early mail pilots delivering mail up and down the Kuskokwim River. Later in his career, he went onto fly commercial jets between Anchorage and Seattle.

Thank you for posting the photos of your place which triggered the chance to reminicse a bit.

You live in a fantastic neighborhood!
