    Help with AICarrier setup

    Hello,

    Am trying to get AICarriers working in V4, and am stumped.

    I've installed the .net version, in an off-root folder (C:\P3DV4-Addons\ZZZ.AICarriers), created an entry in my exe.xml (below) and keep getting an error, and though the AICarriers menu works, selecting any of the boats does not put them into the sim.

    My exe.xml:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    -<SimBase.Document id="exe" version="3,0" Type="AceXML">
    <Descr>AceXML Document</Descr>
    <Filename>exe.xml</Filename>
    -<Launch.Addon>
    <Name>AICarriers</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
    <Path>C:\P3DV4-Addons\ZZZ.AICarriers\AICarriers.exe</Path>
    </Launch.Addon>
    </SimBase.Document>

    The error (in the green dialogue ribbon) - "OnRecvException: UNRECOGNIZED_ID". OS is W7 (64). Have latest (v4.5) of P3DV4.

    I've doublechecked all the install steps - am tearing my hair out trying to troubleshoot this.

    Any help would be much appreciated.

    cheers,

    dl

    DL,

    I have the same problem but in windows 10, so it's not an OS problem. I've tried everything to get it to work.
    It works on my FSX install with no problem. I've tried it in the root folder and outside of it with the same
    thing happening. This has been happening ever since I installed 4.0, I'm now on 4.5 and still the same.

    This might not be a factor at all but how about relocating the files to different folders (or just rename them) without the dash and dot in the names.

    Like change to "C:\P3DV4Addons\ZZZAICarriers\". Maybe try it with the change to the "ZZZ.AICarriers" folder first.

    Grasping at straws here.

    Thanks Joe and Frank,

    Tried renaming the folder without periods, moved it (and aliased in the exe.xml) to various places - nothing works. Frustrating in the extreme. Will keep trying.

    edit:

    Installed FSUIPC, in the off chance there was some connectivity that it would contribute that I didn't know about. Still have the same symptoms, but the event log from the FSUIPC folder didn't reveal anything untoward:

    As far I've seen, P3Dv4+ doesn't get along well with the Java version of AICarriers.

    It seems to work well, normally, with the .NET version of AIC. I've seen some posts in the AIC forum threads on the FSDT Forums that some folks can't get either version to work with P3Dv4+ unless it's installed to the P3D main folder. So you wind up with a path like ...P3D\AICarriers.
    Also, when you put the path into EXE.xml, make sure you include the executable. Something like ...P3D\AICarriers\AICarriers.exe
    Also-Also, make certain that if you decide to use the NET version, you download and install the correct .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile from the link provided by Orion. If the link is broken, just Google it. It's still quite easy to find.

    Take note: sometimes the autoinstaller for the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile (somethingorother.MSI) is 1) Run as Administrator, and 2) that you let it run COMPLETELY. It can APPEAR to freeze up, or stop working. If it does, just walk away and let it run. It can take upwards of 15-20 min to finish. It will place the package in the correct location automatically, no need to tell it where to. Just make sure it's run as Admin, and that it has access to the folders it needs to install it to. I think it needs to go to C:\Windows, but I may be wrong.

    I hope something in all my rambling helps a little...

    I got mine working to some extent. It was a name change in my add-on xml file for my boats that needed amended.
    I did check as Pat has posted to make sure my EXE.xml had the correct path and to make sure .Net 4.0 was installed,
    which it was as I'm on windows 10 (1903) build. That's when I went in and checked the add-on xml file that I noticed
    my mistake and fixed it. Sad part is this only took me since Nov.1 of last year when I installed 4.0 to figure that out.

    Well, mostly sorted out. I had been using the .net version, in admin mode, so I had already covered the basics.

    I found a different exe.xml template in another thread, and that seemed to work. Plus I moved everything to the standard sim-created User/My Documents/P3DV4 Add-ons folder. The only thing that doesn't work right is AiCarriers doesn't start with the sim-I have to start it separately. A bit annoying, but on whole, with the crazy fast and smooth performance, no OOMs, and a more stable sim platform, I can't complain.

    For reference, here's the entry in my exe.xml:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF8-BOM"?>
    <SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
    <Descr>Launch</Descr>
    <Filename>exe.xml</Filename>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad>
    <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>AICarriers</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
    <Path>C:\Users\My Name\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\AICarriers\AICarriers.exe</Path>
    </Launch.Addon>
    </SimBase.Document>

    Slowly rebuilding my FSX fleets into P3D - fun times, now that stuff works. Last remaining carrier-related hurdle, for now, is getting the SWS package in. Ran out of time to try that. Something for the weekend ...

    cheers, and thanks all who chimed in.

    dl
