    Ju 86

    Hi

Came across this interesting titbit the other day - I was watching an old German film from 1955 called the The Devil's General about a Udet type character and look what was in some of the dramatic scenes

One of a couple of Bristol Pegasus engined Swedish Ju 86s. Since this film is out of copyright ( over 50 years old ) there's no problem about downloading.

    Baldy,

The Ju-86 was an odd duck. Pressurized, it could fly over 40,000 feet on reconnaissance missions in the early war, and it was interchangeably equipped with Jumkers Jumo diesels, BMW radials, Siemens radials, Bristol Mercuries, Pratt and Whitney Hornets, and Rolls-Royce Kestrels.

I seem to recall a story about an incident in North Africa, where the RAF used a Spitfire to go up and bring one of these down. I forget which Mk it was, but it never had flown that high either, 40,000 feet was dangerous in a Spitfire when it wasn't built to operate at that height at the time.

    Eddie,

According to the account I read, it was a "specially modified" Spitfire Mk. V, and the reported intercept height was 49,000ft. The incident reportedly occurred in 1942, but I have my doubts about its accuracy.

Yeah Rami, I think hitting 49,000 feet in either of those aircraft in 1942 would be a big stretch, lol

    Is there a Ju-86 available for CFS2?

    Chris,

Technically, yes. But it's an ICARUS payware model, which isn't very good. It's also only a first-generation, SCW model, and the modelling itself is sub-par. Older than dirt and not work pursuing. I've had mine close to a dozen years and rarely use it.

    Hiya Rami,

    Thanks for the info.

That is a shame. A nicely modeled JU86 (Civilian and/or military) would make a really nice addition to the CFS2 hangar. Its a very cool plane.

    Hi SW,

I have a GMax model of this plane downloaded from flightsim. Just google 'Gmax JU86'. Maybe someone can look at it.

    Cheers,

    Stuart
