    FR Halifax / Halton

My friend sent my these WIP screen shots that his young son is working on. Not sure if he plans on releasing these repaints, but I thought I'd share with you in any case. The Halifax model with the glass nose would have been a better choice for these repaints, but the son much prefers the looks of the BOAC Halton and is rolling along with it. He managed to toss in a faux water bomber into the mix too! These young kids learn so fast!

From the picture I have seen on the web it didn't have a glass nose.

Yes you are correct, as the BOAC version never came with a glass nose, but a solid nose.

The few images of the blue and the red Halifax freighters (the non BOAC version) that show up on the internet have the glass nose. Thus I made mention of this to the young lad that he should use the freighter model with the glass nose as his starting point for these repaints and not the solid nose BOAC model, as that wouldn't look correct. However at the end of the day, as mentioned above, he just just preferred that aesthetics of the BOAC solid nose version and went with it. Hope this makes some sense?

    Additional info....

Just got of the phone with my friend and he told me that the so called freighter version (with the glass nose) has a military dressed pilot along with a military dressed observer in the glass nose area. It ended up not looking right with a civilian paint scheme. Thus the decision was to go with the BOAC version (solid nose) that has a civilian dressed pilot. He felt it was a better compromise, and told his son to proceed accordingly.

Thanks for the replies. This brings up the question when does a Halifax become a Halton. When they have the pannier underneath?

Not so sure, but I'm thinking it is the solid nose and rectangular passenger windows that differentiate the Halton from the cargo version of the Halifax.

What I should have said and didn't was that you should tell your friend to nurture that budding talent.

A few more work in progress screen shots. Most likely that last progress screen shots as summer rolls on in and the boy if off to "music boot camp" for the summer. Not as bad as it sounds as the boy really looks forward and can't wait to go. It's in Spain this year!
