Icon22 Question: wake effects for Consolidated_Catalina_PBY-5_CFS2

    Hi Guys!

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to toggle the wake effects for Shessi's 2015(?) Alphasim conversion: Consolidated_Catalina_PBY-5_CFS2?

Even sitting pier-side with engines off the wake effects are going.

I'm sure its probably due to something I did while fiddling around with it but I'll be danged if I can figure out what!

    Thanks!

    Hiya Allen,

Well, the gauge is there. It isn't located in the main panel. And it isn't visible, but it is there. When I select all gauges it shows up in the upper left hand quadrant of the main panel window.

As you can see it is called "Bellyland".

Okay, so, it's there. How does it work? Is there some sort of keyboard shortcut to make it toggle the wake effects? I don't get it.

    MR

Well, I decided to delete the currently installed DAP_CFS2v1 gauge and replace it with the gauge directly out of the folder supplied in Shessi's AC download folder. So I deleted it from the panel and renamed it in my gauges folder and then added the new one to the guages folder. When I went to add the fresh gauge to the panel and clicked on the DAP_CFS2v1 gauge I was presented with a list of contained gauges including, among others, the Bellyland version and the Amphibian version. So I added the Amphibian version.

Unfortunately it didn't make any difference. I still get the wake effect sitting pier-side with engines stopped and can't figure out how to toggle it on/off. It isn't intuitively obvious- to me anyway.

    Hi MR,
    No you're not going mad...lol!

Totally my fault, apologies, for some strange reason I had left the wake effect off this model???!!

For it to work correctly, there is the entry in the aircraft.cfg AND the gauge in the panel, attached is all you need. Just swap for your files and voila......waterworld flumes are yours!!

    Cheers

    Chris,

Its activated as a lighting mechanism which is always on by default. So even if you're pier-side with cold engines, your "lights" are still on. You have to assign a light switch keyboard command to turn it on when needed in motion and off when stationary.

That's the purpose of the lights entry in the aircraft.cfg:

    [lights] panel = 0.00, -2.00, 6.00, fx_PBY_ALPHA_Waterland

    Thanks Shessi and Bearcat241,

Still no joy turning off the wake effect while sitting pier-side with engines off.

In cockpit view, the forward view while sitting engines off pier-side, is a tad frothy. You can see that something is going on. However, in spot plane view, the view is whited out 360 degrees around until I hit the "[" key a couple of times.

During take-off roll everything is fine- no white out in spot plane view and the wake effect disappears as soon as the AC leaves the water- without my having to do anything

Think I will start with a virgin AC, make changes as per attachments above and see what shakes loose.

    Cheers,
    MR

    PS:
For what its worth below is what my lighting key assignments look like. None of them make the slightest difference in the wake effect either when sitting pier-side with engines off or during take-off roll.
