FDG P-51D Skins & Breaking Parts

I'm looking for skins for the FDG P-51D, preferably of the Blue-Nosed Bastards of 352nd FS. The search function seems to miss things sometimes. So if y'all know of any skins, I'd appreciate it.

Otherwise, any 352nd P-51Ds with breaking parts?

I've got the Alphasim, VB, Wai, L'Homme P-51D mustangs, but as far as I can tell, they don't have breaking parts (4x20mm don't knock anything off).

Know of any breaking-parts blue-nosed bastards?

    E.A. Wicklund,

Of all the aircraft, you'd think we'd have an updated model of this, but the best model is the AcWai version, which rumor has it he is updating. There are numerous skins for that model.

    http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...arch&tabid=446

Search in the CFS2 skins -American section, and in the "Search text" box, type Andrew Wai or AcWai, and you will see the repaints for the model.

To each his own, but I don't share Rami's opinion of the best P-51D model. For my money the best model we have is the Alphsim P-51D. To me, it comes the closest to the shape and look of the real aircraft - again IMHO. That's the most important thing for me. It's drawback is that it is a single LOD, but the power of today's computers seem to handle many of them in the air at the same time without any trouble. Just to illustrate my reasoning for my personal choice, you may compare the Alphasim Mustang in the top slot with the real thing in the middle and the AW Mustang in the bottom slot.

On the other hand if a multi LOD aircraft is your priority, then perhaps the AW Mustang is your bird of choice. Also, beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I'm sure there are lots of other opinions out there that don't agree with mine. That's fine and as it should be. Even though we don't have a truly definitive Mustang model, we do have several choices. There is also the FDG2 P-51D, Allen's P-51D, the BR P-51D, and the VB Planes P-51D.

    Cheers,

    Captain Kurt

My P-51D like all of my aircraft are made for putting massive numbers in the air so they are lite on detail. My P-51D is breaking parts and uses a modded CFS3 P-51D skin so it could be an option.

    Kurt,

But is the Alphasim model multi-lod? And I'm pretty sure that the FDGv2 team didn't do a "D" model, it was just the original FDG team?

Thanks Allen, good call. I also noticed that Maxstuka has a breaking parts model of the FDG P-51D posted here. so E.A. has a lot of choices.

    Allen's P-51D:

    Maxstuka's breaking parts A/C:

    Rami,

The Alphasim model is not multi-LOD. The drawback to the Alphasim model is that it is a single LOD as I noted. You are correct regarding the FDG P-51D - it's not FDG2 team's. I plead old age strikes again.

Is this the texture your looking for?

    Attachment 68154

Found it in the CFS3 and started fitting it to my CFS2 P-51D model. If this is the right-ish one I will finish fitting it the rest of the way.

Allen, you rock. I didn't know you had a D Mustang. Yes, that's the scheme I've been looking for. Although, if I could have my cake and eat it too, I'd want "Cripes A'Mighty 3rd". Still any blue-nosed Mustang would be highly appreciated.

I gotta go with Kurt and say I'll take the Alpha Mustang over Wai's. Wai did a terrific job, and lot of skins are available, but the Alpha looks more Mustang-ey to me. My computer hasn't complained yet about too few LODs.

I'm kinda making things complicated, but I'm flying Akemi's 190A-8, and D-9 with Kurt's mods, then using Allen's A-8 and one of Maxstuka's D-9s for the AI enemies. Then I get to see them break up. Same situation with the P-51D & B. It's all a matter of taste, of course, and thank all of you guys for staying with it all these years and truly improving the game. Everything is so much better-looking and more sophisticated than what I remember.

I am still working on the updated AW P-51D. This is what the new aircraft will probably look like.

Ooh, that is looking very, very good. I like the equipment detail behind the pilot's seat. Very realistic.

Allen, thank you for making an actual skin for your P-51D.

After this one, any chance you could do a PTO skin, please? Any Mustang that flew missions over Japanese mainland from Iwo Jima would do the job.

If you are looking for any blue nose P-51D with D-day stripe. There is one called Scrappy.

I like the looks of that one. But those don't look like D-Day invasion stripes. Isn't that a Pacific Mustang? That would be a cool addition for the Pacific.

Just got to my PC, and now that I see it on a bigger screen, I see it is an ETO Mustang. I still like it. Available soon?

Nevermind, I have just found out that skins made for AW P-51D will fit yours with only a limited editing effort, since both of you used CFS3 mapping template.

    A repaint request for allen...

Could you do a p-51b repaint representing the tuskegee airmen, please?

It would be for your p51b addon.

I have trimmed the canopy a little bit yesterday. Here are 2 screen shots of the AW P-51D.

    There is a Tuskegee P-51D available, but I don't have a P-51B.

    It looks very good!

    Just a couple of questions:

1- Will you provide skins for every theaters (ETO, MTO, PTO)?

2- Will skins designed for your previous version work with this new one?

That's terrific. Canopy looks just right now.

Thanks for the comments. All the prior skins work with this aircraft with one minor modification to the propeller.bmp file. I have added a few common new bmp files.

I went to the air show today and took a lot of photos of a P-51D Mustang. It looks like I need to shrink the top horizontal VC cockpit frame by may be 10% to 5%. It will be a minor modification.

Try the ALPHASIM P-51D conversion made by Morton. He included a skin for 'Margaret-IV', which flew missions over Japan from Iwo Jima.
    http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=52&id=17616

As stated above, ALPHASIM P-51D lacks LODs, so it might hit your frame rate hard. If you need a multi-LOD model, try Andrew Wai's Mustang (he will release a reworked version soon).

    His current model: https://simviation.com/1/download?fi...p&fileId=32432
Authentic flight model by Jay McDaniel: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=17&id=14157
There are many PTO skins for it:

    "Foxy" (Iwo Jima): http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=57&id=1961
