    F4U-1C and other questions

Is there an F4U-1C out there with the actual gun fairings on the model?

It used to be you could use a hex editor to change the texture graphics type in the mdl. Still true? What hex editor would you recommend?

Does CFS2 support .jpg or .png or .dds or .tif files for textures?

E.A: in response to your second question: I don't think so but you should be able to convert them to bitmap format usin Martin Wright's DXTbitmap.

If you know a bit about DP editing, you can make a "Charlie" model with the guns in this package:

Thanks guys. I used to do a lot of .dp work, Bearcat. If the cannons are included in that download that might be doable. And Shadow Wolf, I do have DXTBmp. Are you an expert with it? I'm struggling with getting the alpha channel to work right for me.

    You could use DBolt's F4U-1C:

And Bearcat, I successfully built a nice Charlie corsair from that download. He's updated the files so most of the work is already done. Easy peasy.

    Sixstrings,

In the download package, there is a password text file. If not, use this password: JS4Y6B

One other thing: I forgot that the Corsair package has some aircraft.cfg entries that are badly mangled. When I released this package, I corrected that, so you can replace the .cfg entries with the ones from this package: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=17&id=6469

    Bearcat,

That looks like the older model, not the newer anthology series...or are you using a different skin and prop?

Nah...same as yours...check out the package you linked to. If that's the source of the model in your pic, you too should have these "charlie" skins for VF85 and VMF311. The prop is my own addition from "Kelti-works".

But i am running XP3 on a 10 year old video card with the "best-fit" updated drivers. This makes some models appear with weird texture lighting on animated parts like cowl flaps and control surfaces. I even tried to retrofit older driver versions that didn't produce this effect but haven't hit that perfect oldie just yet. May have to revert completely to the original drivers from the install disk that came with the vcard.

Thanks Rami. Should of taken a closer look. The code was included. Thanks for the link to the updated files also. Nice Corsair package ! Many to choose from. Can't wait to try them all out.I'm mainly a Hellcat fan, but what is not to like about the Corsair. Been flying CFS2 much more than CFS3 or IL-2 '46 lately and loving it.Sure brings back fond memories ! Thanks guys,Scott
