    What a great new addition. Better than advertised back last October, MR. Well worth the wait. Greatful thanks!

    LOL!

    Sadly, Shadow, if someone puts one of those scenery cfg files in front of me all it does is make my eyes glaze over!

    Hopefully someone whose is a bit quicker on their feet than I will pop by and be able to tell you whats up by looking at the screen shots and the scenery cfg file.

    All I can say is that it is fixable.

    Be patient.

    Hi Shadowolf
    Just glancing at your Scenery CFG. There is a lot of [Area.'number'] that do not match with Layer='number'.
    I do not think that matters much, however my mesh LOD's are the first scenery area's after the standard setup.

    e.g.

    [Area.012]
    Title=DEM Mesh LOD 7
    Local=SCENEDB\DEM Mesh LOD 7
    Remote=
    Active=TRUE
    Required=FALSE
    Layer=12

    [Area.013]
    Title=DEM Mesh LOD 8
    Local=SCENEDB\DEM Mesh LOD 8
    Remote=
    Active=TRUE
    Required=FALSE
    Layer=13

    Good luck
    Cheers
    Stuart

    SW,

    Did you follow this instruction?

    LWM type scenery included in this package requires copying contents of your scenedb/world/texture folder to your main CFS2 texture folder. It’s a one time deal- it won't hurt a thing. NOTE: If you are going to install PacTex (highly recommended) wait until you have done so before copying these files.
    Also, I normally put my new scenery installs near the top of my scenery library list.

    BTW Shadow, and any one else who might be interested, I switched over to ShpHawk's Replacement Runway Textures a long time ago and never looked back.

    They can be got here.

    Cheers,

    A side note:

    What's next? Are you going to update the Philippines to GSL and maybe using Rhumba's mesh?

    Hi Guys,

    Sorry to disappoint.

    I have several projects in the works.

    None quite as ambitious as a complete redoing of the Philippines. Although I have been working for many years on a massive Manila Bay/Luzon Island Project.

    More immediately I have a rework/expansion of DEI that is nearly in the can for release here at SOH.

    Also making good progress on Line Islands, Phoenix Islands, Tonga Islands, Ellis islands,Cook Islands and American Samoa projects. All of these island groups have been represented by smatterings of locations in past MR Micronesia releases. Now I am including all of the islands in each group and releasing them as individual groups instead of one big massive Micronesia pack.

    Meanwhile, a few screenies from the Gilberts featuring W. Faber's Consolidated PBY-5 "KNIL", 1942 cruising between Aranuka Island and Abemama Atoll!

    Cheers,
    MR

    Outstanding shots Chris! Glad to read that you are working on Manila/Luzon. Would love to see the rest of the PI, but a bite will suffice over the whole meal. I'd love to have Leyte and Ormoc Bay but...

    Great pics MR. Two questions. What cloud set up are you using? What period during the war is this new scenery designed to go with?

    Hiya Worthless.

    I am afraid that neither of my answers to your two questions will shed much light.

    WRT, the clouds- they are a hodge-podge. But I think they are mostly Lindsay Watt clouds.

    WRT what period of the war was the Gilberts pack designed to go with- I am afraid not any particular set in concrete time frame that one could put any hard, fast upper and lower boundary.

    As I said way back in October when I first started working on the project, most of the airfields are way over built compared to anything that was ever actually there- with a few exceptions such as: Betio, Bonriiki, Butaritari and Abemama.

    I am afraid I always take a great deal of poetic license when I build these airfields. ;^)

    Betio is probably the most nearly accurate airfield in the collection. It is portrayed pretty much as it was on the eve of the US assault on November 20 1943. Those paying close attention might notice the zig-zagging wave-less reef-lines running through the water close into shore. These are my lame attempts to portray the under water obstacles set up by the Japanese defenders.

    Of course, after Nov 20, 1943 Betio never again looked the same. The entire island was bull-dozed under so that nothing was left but white coral sand and a fighter/emergency landing strip named (i believe) Hawkins Field.

    Bonriki Island AF at the opposite, southeast, end of the Tarawa Atoll from Betio is also not a bad representation of the actual place.

    But in reality Bonriki Island AF and the Japanese airfield on Betio never existed at the same time.

    Butaritari Island is also a bit anachronistic from a time frame stand point. It includes most of what was there prior to the US invasion as well as the airfield that was built after the invasion.

    In terms of an actual airfield the closest thing located on Butaritari prior to the invasion was a Kawanishi Emily seaplane base at the foot of Kings Wharf- marked in the scenery by a wrecked Emily that is still there today.

    I guess 1943-1944 would be the best I could do in narrowing it down!

    Cheers,
    MR

    Ok MR. Thanks for the info as to time frame. I've loaded her up. No problem there. Flown Makin Butaritari Abaiang Marakei Trarawa so far. Was missing a few things at first. JMK_daihatsu and some of Pen32win's stuff from his af_cstdef_pak and af_cstdef2, but soon as I added them all was well. Scenery marvelous. Keep on taking all the poetic licence and artistic licence you want. Frame rates were very good even with all the objects and trees. I'll fly the others tomorrow. Time for me to call it a day.

    Thanks No Dice. I loaded up MR's new Gilbert Is. scenery in my basic PTO Rhumba install I set up for Uncle Tgt's New Britain and Carolines scenery. My notes show I have been using LWD_clouds in that install. I may wish to make a switch. I'll check out your recommendation.
