We could call it a tie since it's the last race, but I don't think I'm going to catch you...

Welcome to the Valley of the Sun gentlemen! Beers are on me!
Expect banging, belching and an occasional manly fart as you roar down the runway at full power. (I have found that the engine can make similar noises)

Needless to say, Team AVSIM had several discussions about continuation...let's get it figured out.

  20. #145
As for 2020. The executive committee is loosing Rob/Mike so I'm willing to assist someone in planning a race for next year if you guys really are up for it. Avsim team members want to continue for sure. Put some thought into it and we'll plan something.

Here's a clue as to how hard I threw my F-80 at the runway...

We GOTTA do something about this weather situation.

I’m open to ideas regarding weather, it’s such a tricky one

  24. #149
Wow... That was one H--L of a Race! After all the good and bad that happened to both teams over the weekend, I am STILL having trouble believing that it was ---THAT... CLOSE...! Kudos to all of you at Team Avsim! Hats off to everyone who flew this year, and a round on me!

And I reiterate my thanks to you here at SOH for giving this Race refugee a home. Thank you for accepting me and allowing me to contribute once again to something that I look forward to every year. I am truly grateful.

Now there's just this little matter of "completing the circle" if you will.

We started our Team SOH practice round at Oakland and ended up at Dubai, then the Race took us from Dubai to Phoenix. Getting back to Oakland would be a nice finishing touch on a great month of flying.

So, when I'm ready, I'll continue from KIWA to KOAK over on the Practice thread.

P.S. Fun like this can only be had very rarely. I don't know just yet how we could do it, but the object should be a 2020 FSRTWR that yields the same fun- and wow-quotient that I experienced during this year's Race. Maybe we should stay tuned...
    Fair skies and following winds,

    Frank

Close race for sure! Well done AVSIM.

Case in point, on our UHHH to UHMM wildcard leg, both MaddogK and I were flying the A2A P-51D (M had the earlier version) and both using FSrealWxPro. As wingman, I was making a steady GS of 420 while MaddogK seemed to average at about 373. Now I was at a lower alt at 24100' for cruise while he was a little higher at 27,300'. The AVG H/T wind component was wildly different as reported by the duenna yet while flying we seemed to have roughly the same winds live in the sim.

As far as FSrealWxPro goes, MaddogK noted that you could toggle the weather from either a German (DE) or USA (US) server in the settings. I had left it default on the DE server. Not sure if this made a difference but it is worth noting as we move forward.

Again, nice job everyone who participated this year. And a special sendoff to Mike and Rob for all of their thankless work over the years behind the scenes.

    Kevin
