There's only five Arizona survivors left, all in their late 90s, and for the first time none will be able to attend today's ceremony at Pearl Harbor. Their places will be held by a 95-year old survivor of the Oklahoma, hopefully until next year. We're losing a generation.

Never forget the 2,008 sailors, 109 marines, 218 soldiers and airmen, and 68 civilians who perished that day, and especially the 1,107 who still rest aboard Arizona.

For anyone who's never visited the Arizona Memorial or the 9/11 Memorial: they should both be on your bucket lists.

Bub,

Thank you for honoring the sacrifice and memories of those there on that fateful day. I had a funeral to go to this morning, but it was on my mind to post something along these lines. My grandfather also was in WWII; he was training to be a surgeon before the war and served as a medic in it. He was at both Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and then sold shoes after the war for the rest of his wife.

My maternal great-grandfather I also found out recently served in WWI, and was involved in the Battle of the Marne in 1916. I didn't know much about his history until well after he was gone, I just remember wanting to always wear his hat when I was a kid.

God bless all those who gave of their lives that day.

No sweat Rami, was honored to put up the post. My Father was a Machinist during the war and made some very critical parts for the effort. My Uncle on my Mom's side was a Bombardier in B-24's out of North Africa and Italy. He flew 53 missions.

I agree with nagpaw, an excellent photo. Someone for all of us to look up to.

Sgt Joedell Baskin



First Sergant Joedell Baskin, Served in New Guinea and ended up taking command of
his battalion when all the officers were wounded or killed during an intense Japanese attack
After reorganizing his defense, the enemy was not only repulsed but annihilated.
Once back in Guam, he was awarded the Bronze star of which many people are petitioning to have
upgraded to at least a Silver Star

..I heard a a small announcement blip on the radio that a sailor from the USS Oklahoma has been identified through DNA as a 3rd class Machinest who died at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th 1941 from, I believe, NY. Never heard anymore references to it.
