Zeebrugge Naval Air Station Flanders 1

I'm about half way through placing infrastructure for the WW1 German Naval air base at Zeebrugge. Photographs and drawings show the base to be quite different to the Zeebrugge of WW2, so GSL scenery needs to reflect that fact. At the heart of the Zeebrugge base was the mole, a large curving concrete structure which jutted out into the sea.

I am looking for someone interested in making a model of the mole. It would need to either support existing railway tracks or have rail lines simulated along the "deck". It would also have to support several small hangars and warehouses already in the library, as well as a few cranes.

There are a number of excellent piers in the library, but none really capture the look of this structure which was at the heart of such an important base. We already have one float plane ready to take up residence.

    Anyone interested please PM me.

    Thanks,

    Ravenna

Gee Allen, if the PBY is an indication of the scale there would be plenty of room for a small hangar or warehouse x 4. If you look at the aerial photograph of the mole, taken from right above, the buildings look a bit crowded and not too far from the rail tracks. What I'm seeing in your pic is very pleasing. I was thinking of using one of Robert John's rail bridges to span the distance from the land to the mole. If you put a narrow concrete section on the end it only needs to be wide enough to take the generic lighthouse from the library.

    Thanks, Michael

Wall the wall that faces the sea is there. I think it is 8 feet tall from the mole deck. Dose look like I messed up the light house part so back to Blender... As for objects on top. I really don't want make any my self. If you know of objects made that I can add the on that would be good.

As for height from water. I need a number or link to Xavier objects if they are going to be use and the objects your using to link the mole back to land.

    Hi Guys,

If the buildings you want to use are single BGL's I don't think it would be too difficult to create new ones that were of the correct height.

Let me know if I can help.

Recycling already made WWI buildings would work fine as I work in gMax and can import buildings.

Wonderful work, Guys. Here is some period footage of Friedrichshafen FF.33s operating from off the Mole.

Would this apply to the AF guns as well? It would be useful to have at least 4 naval guns along the seawall. I also thought we had a couple of guns with shields, but I can't locate them.

    Cheers,

    Ravenna

    Hi Ravenna,

Should be able to make a custom BGL.

What AF Gun are you using?

Allen, here is a suggestion: If you copy the narrow section between the mole and the lighthouse and make it into a new object it could be used as the pier jutting out from the coastline. That would be 1761 feet long. Between the pier and the mole there is a rail viaduct 984 feet long, like a jetty on stilts. That would have a height the same as the mole you have made.

This would mean 3 objects: 1) the mole and lighthouse section 2) the copy of the lighthouse pier (without the lighthouse) and 3) the viaduct joining the first 2 objects.

The more I look at your concrete mole the more impressed I am.

    Broad leaf tree2
    Dead_trees2_damaged

    Railroad_I2
    sandbags
    sbridge2
    VietCraneCargo

    Andrew,
As you can see I have cast a fairly wide net. Next time not so ambitious!
The lock and mole were made by Allen for the Zeebrugge scenery.
The ZM_Shed was made by the B24Guy for the mole. I will send you the mole, shed and lock files.
WW1_barbed_wire is from Robert Sprackland's magazine (I think it was number 6- the issue with the WW1 theme). Same for the dead tree.
Viet_cargo crane (oops, I thought I deleted that one) is on the Free Flight site, Vietnam objects, Page 2.
I think sandbags is from the same page...see the sandbag bunkers.
Gr_hse1 should be in the Beta ETO scenery set by Gius.
fibldr is, I think, in the PHP2 scenery set.
Railroad I2, the broadleaf tree and the stone bridge I will have to look at in my files and my readme (actually Kevin has added some of the links I omitted in the readme).
The sandbags and damaged trees can actually be deleted if we are looking at 1940.
I will email you today with the links to the above and the objects made by Allen and B24Guy. Do you also have KDriver's Flanders scenery remodelling and flattens?

    Cheers,
    Ravenna

    Michael,

Yes, I do have the Flanders scenery. Turns out it's also useful for BoF, as well.

    Hi Rami

I believe the object gr_hse1 is an object in the in the stock scenery_cfs_library and in the remodeled scenery_cfs_library found in issue14.

It is a stock object with an incorrect dp.

    Issue 14 page 25

    scenery_cfs_library Remodeled: DP's not working

After testing the remodelled scenery_cfs_library, I found that a few objects
do not show up in mission Builder, they are
    gr_apt0.dp
    gr_apt1.dp
    gr_apt2.dp
    gr_apt3.dp
    gr_apt4.dp
    gr_bl0.dp
    gr_bl1.dp
    gr_hse0.dp
    gr_hse1.dp
    gr_hse2.dp
    gr_hse3.dp
    gr_hse4.dp
    gr_hse5.dp
    lighthse.dp

The reason for this is that there are no category in the DP's

    Example
    [MISC_DATA]
    unit_family=4
The data should look like this
    [MISC_DATA]
    unit_family=4
    category=31

The modified DP's are included in this issue

    Ravenna,

Some great news...Zeebrugge works beautifully, and frame rates are more than acceptable, especially on my desktop. On the laptop, frame rates were above twenty-four, which means there was no stutter.

You also did a nice job on the locks, and I can see the areas where Kevin adjusted the water class. Nice work!

When I complete the Bruges installation, I will do the final cleanup transfer and copy my laptop installs to my desktop, so everything will be updated, and I'll post a few screenshots.

    Now, onto Bruges.

Ha! Your screen shots show what I am missing. I am still getting fuzzy textures, looking like a mid summer heat haze when I fly around Flanders and northern France. I've started a fresh install so I'm about to experience the misery this will inflict on anyone else installing Bruges-Zeebrugge.
Can I just point out that Kevin's redrawing of the coastline and flattening of the landscape made all this possible.

Thanks Michael and Andrew. I'm starting to get the hang of Ground2K. Allen and B24 Guy did a great job with the infrastructure.

I'm still getting some ground texture bleeding through into the lock's water. Mostly this happens as I get close to the lock/s. A minor quibble but it happens consistently.
