    Good afternoon,

Made it through the surgery intact; they put stitches in my neck so I shouldn't end up in the ER like last time. They were able to dilate me out further this time, and they should be able to put the stents in when I come back out in June or July, So we "play it again, Sam" in four months.

I'm going to sleep for a while now, play nice kids.

Happy to hear that everything went well. Get some serious sleep. You've earned it.

    Good evening,

Barring any unforeseen weather complications, I should be back home by tomorrow evening.

What airline are you booked on? Jet Blue? Delta?

I just looked at the departure reschedules for MSP. 17:49 local looks like maybe the next ones out?

    Chris,

On that plane, buckled in, no pilot. He’s “on his way.” JetBlue flight #836. Here so long they had to get another one. O Captain, my captain. If I had a Mustang, I’d be home now.

Good. Hopefully he doesn't look anything like this guy!

Have a safe and uneventful flight home, Rami.

    Andrew,

    Welcome back.

How long before you know how successful the procedures have been?

    Michael,

That's a complicated question. I know now that the first surgery was a success; the accesses they created through my abdominal veins to get to the iliac veins in my legs held open, so the second surgery was only half as long as the first. The dilated me out with a wider gauge this time, and the big "tell" will be if the wounds on my legs finish healing and go away. Usually, the most rapid healing occurs in the first several weeks following the procedure.

If there is not a lot of re-constriction, then the odds of them being able to put the stents in my back to hold the veins open is high. They have to go slow because the risk of complications and/or setbacks is high if they rush it. If the put the stents in too early and the veins re-constrict, then it can crush the stents and we end up worse than we were before the whole procedure began, because there will be no resource.

So this is an exercise in patience....and if you add in the costs of air travel, lodging, and food, these trips are working out to be about $2,000 a shot. I know I'm going to be going out in June/July and probably October this year.

Until then, it's work, family, and school.
