    Sopwith Schneider

Have just uploaded this aircraft. This is not an original work by me but a fourteen year old model for FS2004 by Craig Richardson. It is such a suitable a/c for both HMS Campania and HMS Ben-my-Chree that I converted it to CFS 2 and added a dp. UncleTgt, as usual, has done the heavy lifting by sorting out the panels and providing four new textures.

Icon22 Sopwith Schneider by Baldy and UncleTgt!

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - World War I

Description: A small British floatplane adapted for war from the 1914 Schneider Trophy winner. Carried out trials on HMS Ben-my-Chree and HMS Campania. Also used in early efforts to intercept Zeppelin airships even to the extent of mounting two a/c on submarine E22. This experiment was unsuccessful. Thus aircraft served with the RFC, RNAS and the later RAF.

This model is a conversion to CFS 2 from a FS2004 model by Craig Richardson in 2004.

Actually, the USNAS skin is a bit of a cheat, the photos show her sporting a 4 bladed prop, but I got carried away...

Is this Schneider as in Trophy? A very interesting aircraft; looking a lot like the Sopwith Tabloid. I love all this First World War output and particularly like the USNAS paint. Thanks for such a rich and useful stream of aircraft and ships Baldy and Uncle! Feeling a bit frustrated that there are no WW1 seaplane bases on the English, French and Belgian coasts. I'm slowly making my way up the coast of WW1 Belgium and looking for a mole to suit Zeebrugge.

Lovely work. Certainly fills an early WW1 gap.

    Hi all.

That nice Mr Driver has pointed out that I've left the sound folder empty in the Sopwith Schneider ( yes it's a production model of the 1914 Schneider Trophy winner ) -- my apologies all round for my senility -- the easiest thing to do is alias the sound to a similar a/c

    once again, sorry chaps

I had the same trouble the first time I tried to take off and land. Since then she's sat on the water perfectly. The aircraftmen must have repaired the holes in the floats overnight.

That must be the submarine version.

    Hi

Can't explain that - never happened before and I've just tried it again and it works fine

I tried many times and still the same result... Every other seaplanes work fine (including your Fairey Campania and Short 184).

all I can think of is your aircraft.cfg is corrupted so try this one

    Aircraft.cfg.txt

this from my install and I've just tried it and it's OK ( remember to delete the .txt )

or is it your sea level, I'm guessing now

I tried it but still no joy. Any other seaplane (either WW1 and WW2) works like a charm.

I tried it on different installations, with or without Rhumba's mesh, with the same result.

    Hi Roxane

Are you still having this problem with the Schneider ? The only idea I can offer to help is this

    1. delete existing Sopwith Schneider folders from any / all installations on your computer

    2. delete original download zip file from computer

    3. re-boot your computer

    6. reduce number of A/c in install ( who knows - it might work )

    4. download new zip from SOH ( or FreeFlight )

    5. re-install a/c and try again

Can't think of anything else to help - but if you've already sorted it then ignore the above

I tried everything you wrote, on multiple installations (including a vanilla one), but still no luck.

I really don't understand what's wrong with this one, since every other seaplanes are working just how they are supposed to...

  23. #23

    airfile entries?

I took a look at the airfile. It contains undercarriage records for the Sopwith Tabloid, & a bunch of FS98 style records. The undercarriage record might be conflicting with what's in the aircraft.cfg. I removed the FS98 records & replaced with CFS2 records, & removed sections 1004 Landing Gear & 1005 scrape points.

TBH it still needs a lot of work (super efficient constant-speed prop, etc.) but I found I could get this to load & take-off without the issues you describe. Try it out & feedback...

  24. #24
I will try it out. Thanks.

  25. #25
Just tried UncleTgt's airfile, but still no joy...

I am completely lost. Any other seaplane or flying boat is working perfectly, but this one. If nobody else is experiencing the same issue, I don't understand why it happens to me, and why with this model only...
