Will be released from 20.09.18.
RTX looks promissing for our hobby also,
https://wccftech.com/nvidia-rtx-2080...e-ray-tracing/ . Maybe in P3Dv5 or XP12?
Id like to see tests in P3Dv4.3 also (compared to 1080Ti for example).

Thanks, YoYo! Very interesting indeed, especially considering the upcoming generation of VR sets.
Crazy expensive, but given VR, I'll probably update and move my 1080 to my kid's rig.
Think I will be sticking with my 1080 Ti for a while yet.
Been waiting for the new one's as I need to upgrade my GPU. I am currently using a GTX 770. Yeah, I know.
The 2080 Ti is way out of my budget, but I am sure I can convince my significant other on the need for the 2080.
Want to see the difference in performance compared to the 1080 Ti first though, as prices for that card will drop, as long as I can still find one by that time, lol.
One day without laughter, is one day without living.
One day without Flight Simming, is one day lost living.
It's just supposition, but I'm pretty sure this new card will not bring any performance improvement for people playing on a screen.
For people playing on multiple screens, or single screen with ultra high resolution, or VR helmets, it might do some good though.
VR is the main focus for me. If the next generation of helmets bring in some serious resolution, then this new RTX might become useful.
Now, if only we could get some faster CPUs as well... (or a better implementation of the game engine in P3D...)
Thanks for posting this. Despite the marketing blabla, this is a great speech. It gives you a good insight over the architecture and the software that accomplishes real time raytraycing. Great things are about to come, I think.
But let's not forget that the OS has to support it, as well as the simulators. Expecially the latter is a bit behind the curve.
Cheers,
Mark

Great stuff ! Now I can start to think about an upgrade . I'm still using my old i7- 4790 . It does an ok job but needs to be consigned to history. What would be a suitable replacement to handle the above and VR ? Need to save my pocket money first so I'm looking at a few months down the track.
Greenie, the next gen Intel processors are going to be announced in early October:

While P3D's being built on the ancient Flight Simulator code means it's not as multithreaded as newer game titles, the extra cores still come into play well when running weather, traffic, and other FS utilities concurrently with the sim.
The i9-9900K looks pretty awesome for a sub-$500 chip, with 8 cores, 16 threads, and 4.7GHz on all cores. That kind of performance was >$1,000 last generation.
Thanks Denny . What a setup that'll be ! I'll have to put the piggy bank into commission
I'm starting to think my 3DFX Voodoo card may be a bit dated..
