Icon22 MaskRider's Formosa airfields in GSL released!

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Scenery Add-Ons

    3 August 2008

MaskRider Formosa Airfield Pack - GSL Version
    July 17, 2018
    Chris Westervelt
    crismahn@sbcglobal.net

This is a GSL rework of the original API macro version of the 2003 MR Formosa pack. Aside from replacing API macros with dynamic scenery objects nothing much has changed. The new GSL object layouts have been enhanced both in quality and quantity over the original API macro layouts. The ground textures are the original ground textures. The NDBs and Runway entries are all the same. Be aware that the scenery included here was originally created to fit the zigs and zags of stock CFS2 mesh, masks, rivers, roads and coastlines. However, it looks passable with Rhumbas mesh and masks too. :-)

If you think you may be missing some of the scenery objects included here, go to my website. There you will find a complete listing of all scenery object packs from which objects may or may not have been included. Follow the links under the heading "REQUIRED SCENERY OBJECT LIBRARIES:"

    Cheers!

Happy to be of service, guys! No worries.

BTW, find attached a zip containing the layouts for these airfields in case anyone would care to tweak them. I intended to include them in the original zip, but forgot. :^)

    Cheers,

    Good morning,

I wanted to let everyone know that the darkened bitmaps that UncleTgt did for Formosa work beautifully with these new airfields.

MaskRider...for the I-Lan Strip airfield, there a still a couple of anti-aircraft bunker positions on the western and southern edges of the field that were not erased from the original macro.

Hmmm...I'm not seeing them. Could you post a screenie? Do you mean there are a couple of API-macro AA bunkers?

Hmmm...here is what mine looks like:

Are you sure you deactivated the old Formosa scenery? Because there were no camo nets in the original. Camo nets were added for this GSL rework. There were no camo nets back in 2003.

    Chris,

I haven't added the GSL yet; these are there without them. I like to go through layout by layout first. I'm also using UncleTgt's darkened bitmaps, because they are quite compatible. I downloaded the package this morning, so I think I have the latest version, and I did remove all previous .bgl files.

You didn't by any chance run formosa-i-lan.lay through gobcheck did you?

I think two things may be causing some confusion here. First, I'm thinking maybe you might not have the old API-macro version of the scenery deactivated. I don't recall exactly- but I will go and check to see how many AA emplacements there were in that scenery. But the new version only has just 4 AA emplacements, all of them singles. The other thing that may be causing some confusion might be if you ran the layourt file through GOBcheck. If you did then it would have split it into two separate layouts- I don't recal the GOB numbers.

Let me go check an see how many API Macros that old version had.... I just looked. I don't see any AA emplacement in the original version.

    Chris,

    Taito strip is clean.
    Heng Chun is clean.
    Hsin-Chu is clean.
    Kagi South is clean.
    Tai Chung is clean.
    Taikao is clean.
    Tainan is clean.

Hua-Lin has some AA positions around the edges, as well as crates and a pier near the water's edge.

    Chris,

Yeuppers, I did remove / deactivate the old ones, not to worry. I'm not giving you headaches on purpose, buddy. I promise.

And just to clarify, I'm not talking about library objects in the layout files, I'm talking about macro objects still on the field for those I listed. The others are clean.

    Rami,

Yes, I understand what you are saying. But as I pointed out earlier, there were NO AA emplacements in the original version of I-Lan. So there shouldn't be any leftover API-Macro AA emplacements there. None that I had anything to do with anyway. Likewise with Kiirun- no AA emplacements. And there shouldn't be any left over camo netting API macros either because Camo netting as a scenery object didn't even show up until many years after I released the original Formosa pack. So, I am confused.

I think I will step back and do something else for a bit.

BTW here are what my MB layout windows look like with the layouts for Kiirun and I-Lan loaded up.

    Chris,

Nope...don't cool your effort on my account, please. I'm going back through my installs right now to check for any problems, because I know the quality of your work well, especially having reinstalled the Pacific from scratch. I'm determined to find where these files reside.

Something must be rotten in Whitman, not California.

Thanks again for these, they are awesome. Please let me sort this out on my end.

Tell ya what, lets try this. Put the bgls for Kiirun and I-Lan aside in a separate folder and then fire up the sim and see if the offending objects are still there.

Also, here are the two bgls I currently have loaded in my game. They also match time and date with the bgls included with the new pack.

    Hi Rami,

There is information stored in CFS2\INDEX files. Try moving these to a new location (save just in case), so CFS2 has none of these in the root folder.
Delete all of the file list .dat files.
Restart the sim and let it rebuild these files, new.

Sometimes they'll become corrupt, especially after mass injections of new files.

Just installed the latest version. This is I-Lan.

I thinks me found the issue...let me check in Mission Builder. If I'm right, it's not in the package, it's Meridian-based, and I'm a schmuck, or just a fool with a bad memory.
