Good question. Everything I've found seems to be for the southern portions of the continent and leaves out the northern portion along the Mediterranean. I'd like to find a product that does the North as I was stationed in Tripoli in the mid-60's and what the Sim displays along that coast is nothing like the actual coastline. I'll be watching to see what develops here.

This was posted here some time ago, but from the looks of it that's not what you're looking for.

What you're looking for is probably ORBX Global + vector and FreeMeshX.

Thanks, and yes you are correct, that's not the area I was looking for. . .however I do have the other suggested areas and they do very little to correct the poorly illustrated coastlines around Tripoli. It will probably require some hand-done work to get it correct. Thanks.

You might want to look at Toposim, they have some pretty good mesh products that cover all the continents, combined with Orbx Global I am pretty happy with it.

when you go to purchase remember that there planet earth bundle is just 2x that of Africa alone.

There’s also the Calclassic ‘Africa 1960’ scenery pack. Originally for FS9, but most (not all) of the fields display fine I’m FSX. Retro, but still a good way to populate some eye candy in otherwise desolate areas of the continent.

Good advice, thanks Frank! I found in "Freeware Scenery" this Africa Photoreal package. It looks quite nice:

I've just tested Tripoli, Libya (tile #10):

At the top of this image there is an airport, which I believe is what used to be Wheelus AFB and is now referred to as Mitiga. Can you take a close shot of that and post if possible. The problem I've found with most default offerings is that the flightline area sits too far off the coast. I worked in the Main Hangar at the north end of the ramp, closest to what was called "Perimeter Road". After work I could walk across the street and down onto the beach to go swimming. . .most default scenery shows it to be a much farther distance than that from the hangar to where the beach area would be.

    Thanks

Default FSX airport HLLM Mitiga is not quite aligned with photo scenery... I haven't found another version of it in the usual places...

    From googlemap:

Thanks for the post. Yes, the AFCAD is off slightly, lol. Here's some additional info on the airport as it was in the 50's and 60's. Also, in the Sim they have a second runway running perpendicular to the main runway. That's incorrect. It was never a runway, it was and still is a taxiway . . . .you can tell by looking closely at the image, there aren't any touchdown marks anywhere. . .I assume they figured since it was long and straight it had to be a runway, lol.

Anyway, If I can find a product that displays the coastline as it is in these photos I'd be happy to slide the plastic for it.

    African Adventures

It isn't quite state of the art scenery but Aerosoft's African Airstrip Adventures presents some very interesting adventures.

Surprisingly on one flight, I had to abort a takeoff because a giraffe started walking across the runway!

as frank posted the freeware listings, this is the payware list by the same guys> http://www.flightsim-scenery.com/fsx.html

there isnt much for africa, however there is some cheaper payware appearing at simmarket, however from the looks of it, you get what you pay for
