    Fairey Campania and HMS Campania

I first built models for this aircraft and ship a few years ago but never uploaded them as I was not satisfied with the results. However my and UncleTgt's work on the DH 9 made me decide to revisit them. In the light of better information than was available at the time I have completely revised the modelling on both and Uncle has produced some seriously good skins.

I have uploaded both models and offer some pics ( some by Uncle )

    Hope you like

    A Fairey Festa

    Mike,
These models are great. Can't wait to download them. Uncle Tgt's painting really captures the atmospherics well.
    Are biplanes becoming addictive?

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - World War I

Description: With the success of HMS Campania's flying trials, the Fairey Campania was specifically designed for use on this vessel. The aircraft was mainly used as a spotter and patrol a/c. Apart from equipping HMS Campania, it also served with a few RNAS squadrons at points in the English Channel. During the Russian revolution British intervention forces supporting the White Russians used several Fairey Campanias.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Ships Add-Ons

Description: The world's first operational aircraft carrier. At the outbreak of WWI the Royal Navy converted the steamship RMS Campania into a seaplane tender / aircraft carrier. With its sloping flight deck float planes could be flown off using jettison-able wheel carriages. The first flight was a Short type 184 torpedo bomber in June 1916. This was deemed so successful that a specific a/c, the Fairey Campania, was designed to equip the ship and several were loaded aboard.
HMS Campania was later downgraded to training duties because of its age and came to an ignominious end in Nov 1918 when she dragged her anchor in a storm. The damage she suffered by colliding with other vessels caused her to sink. Fortunately the entire company were saved.

Definitely enhances the naval dimension of my WW1 setup.

Hi Baldy Nice work on these. (looks like the emogie's for applause are not working today) The readme makes interesting reading from a 'take-off- point of view, in terms of some ships I have been working on, particularly the HMS Arethusa Class CL from 1916 and 1918 Catapult take-off. Looks like this is the only way. Aircraft falling through the deck. Restart and Try again. This is about all I can do, apart from making the 'deck larger' and having the plane sitting 'thin air'. I still have an unusual problem of the aircraft actually rolliing backwards (and eventually falling through the deck into the sea) when it should be sitting on the flightdeck awaiting the engine to be turned on. The 'sloping runway' question may have been solved. One plane only. Still not sure how Usio worked the IJN Akagi with two 'slopes'. Cheers Stuart

    Rolling backwards

    hi Stuart

the a/c is being ‘blown’ off the flight deck - try applying parking brake as soon as it appears not forgetting to release as soon as your revs are up - or you reduce the speed of the carrier via the mission text - it’s the last number in line that gives position etc ( can’t remember exactly as I’m not at home)

the falling thru on generation is because the game never generates in the exact spot required - it generally in the area of ( who knows ) it’s something we gotta live with

    cheers
