The sky color conversation is very interesting and I am truly interested in following it......but after about 13 or 14 OT posts about it here, don''t you guys think the conversation is worthy of being moved to it's own thread?

Stock aircraft, stock scenery and the P-38 was a pleasant surprise.
Do FSX 'only' repaints work, because foolishly I only had FSX at the time and it threw a hissy when I attempted to install it in P3D3?
I can't get over just smoothly this version runs.

If you want me to i could take a shot at that (to stay on topic). Would be my first major task as a moderator here...

Btw, i hope one day we'll get to see breakers like those in Wombat's photo... In the otherwise magnificent looking scenery that we get in P3Dv4 these 20 year old things look particularly silly, don't they.. I'd say do away with them completely or atleast slow down the animation with 75%. They stand out like a sore thumb. Enough is enough. All IMHO of course

    Cheers,
    jan

I think it would be awesome, if you can do it.
It will be interesting to see how environmental things like the sky and ocean improve as people come up with ways over time to do it.
Right now, I'm especially thrilled with the number of FSX airplanes I'm finding that work properly with P3D4.

P3Dv4 Vid Reno/Tahoe Int to NAS Fallon "Top Gun"

I've had four airport scenery projects in the queue, awaiting 64bit. Now it's here, so I can show a bit of the work in progress.

This is a short hop from Reno Tahoe International out to NAS Fallon. I've built all of the good bits into KRNO including bump mapped and specular lit ground polys. The airport is still a WIP so it is still quite clean and lacking "clutter", but the modeling is quite extensive. The flight stages from Nevada ANG "High Rollers" facility.

NAS Fallon is a very early work and still uses the freeware NAS Fallon for FSX for the infrastructure buildings, but everything else is new work. The entire town is fully annotated with individual buildings and trees on every footprint. The beauty of 64bit is that it can handle this kind of load without whinging...at all.

The entire video is designed to really showcase what P3Dv4 does well. I've been learning/developing the 64bit techniques over the last five years and the wait has been worth it. I've updated all of my models to 64bit via the V4 SDK, and am showing for the first time the new generation autogen and vegetation in 64bit and high def video.

The camera work is entirely ChasePlane driven. All interior and exterior camera movement is generated by the extensive settings available in the ChasePlane software. Additional "flying" of the camera is handled by key and controller inputs. The net is quite lovely.

This video shows very clearly the level of performance that can be attained using a very modest GeForce GTX 780 3gig GPU. For those on the fence...watch the video and decide for yourself.

I chose the Virtavia C-17 for this video, mainly because I have a monster sound set for this plane. I've mixed the sound and music as well, so feel free to turn it up.

Please...you Navy guys...don't frag me for the USAF markings on the C-17. I didn't have time to do a Navy skin before I took it out to Top Gun. lol

    Enjoy...

That is an awesome video Gordon. Are you taking over from Cody on the vids? You had me almost wanting to buy the C-17. I remember seeing them flying approaches at the Jackson, MS airport, when I used to fly into there. Then I remembered that if you have two pilots in an airplane, you have one too many.

Between you and Ed (Falcon409) and seeing your projects, I want to learn scenery building, as soon as this latest sim cockpit is finished. I love these new airports people are building. I would love to fix up some local airports and towns to more represent their real counterparts.

    IMO

Cody's video stands on it's on merit, but thank you for such a wonderful compliment.

My approach at design work and video is to explore the envelope with better and better tools. When I bump up the GPU to 11gigs, I'll be able to maintain solid 60 FPS @ WFO sliders, which is what the capture software prefers. Once the sliders are at full song, and the captures are butter smooth, I'll see where I can go with the video choreography.
