    Ito's Yak-23 revisited

    Hi folks,

I managed to progress on the Yak-23 from Kazunori Ito. A long time project that moved slowly but here we are. Metal template are almost finished and a few liveries may show up !

As far as I know, only Morton did a couple of liveries for CFS2 then this model fell apart and was quite forgotten...It deserved better, as the 3D model is top notch quality considering its age.

Special thanks go to Mick, who kindly turned the MDL files into reflective ones !

All I did was run the model through Shiney, which won't run on l'iguane's rig. Anything else is l'iguane's work.

Very nice indeed. I particularly like the civilian yellow-tail livery

I was wondering what you mean by: "...All I did was run the model through Shiney..."

Is there a tool that helps one do this for the game?

    Hello Bookman,

Shiny is a simple utilitary that allows one to modify a "non reflective" MDL file to a reflective one.
In a simpler way, the (reflective) model will accept texture with alpha channel and use this alpha to "shine" instead of getting transparency (mdl with reflectivity disabled)

Quite a brain-ache for people unfamiliar with mdl files and repainting. Took me quite a long to understand it approximately.
I would dream about a utilitary that "paint" a natural and realistic metal skin but this is not about what shiny does !

    Cheers

I always liked the original, in fact it lives on in one of my FS9 'Cold War' installations.
Thanks for polishing her up and adding the variations.

Such a tease! The American paint looks great. Any idea when the paints will be released?
Mmm, how about some fictional 'racing' paints? Could be a great Reno racer?

As far as I know, CFS2 does not have the capability to display metallic reflective textures.

I know for sure that Ito has always specified in his documentation that his models must never be converted for CFS2, so in respect for his expressed wishes, probably nobody made a CFS2 conversion.

You could, of course, convert your own personal copy for your personal use, as long as you didn't release it to the public. But those reflective skins would probably just look dull gray in CFS2.

Jackryan, yes the US test version livery is on the queue
Dmaloof, I may release a cfs2 version of the paints, stripped down from their alpha layers. they may look different in the game and I don't have CFS2 so I won't be able to modify if they look wrong.

Release should be next days, as soon as I have time for it.
Thanks everyone for showing interest ! That's quite encouraging, as there are less and less people involved in fs9.

This one might do the work: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...68-MK_mdlc-zip .

In the past I had a different tool based on Ivan Hsu's model converter, but I think this version by Morton does the same.

I wanted one that converts from CFS 2 to FS9 FSX?
English is not my native language, I ask your indulgence.
    Correct me, if you will.
