    Things without wings.

We have a thread for birds, but surely those aren't the only animals we photograph, so time for a thread for other animals, in a zoo or in the wild.

    From a recent zoo trip:

    In the wild!

One of our resident Kangaroos, in this case the Alpha Male in 'our' mob of Eastern Greys. He tolerates me. I think.

And this typical of his family, at times they split into smaller groups but quite often we get the complete tribe 'visiting'.

For something completely different I give the Echidna, aka the 'Spiny Anteater'. Caught this little guy in the middle of the day (not all that unusual) digging in the sand dunes, in this shot I think he has adopted the 'Ostrich Pose', cant see me so he thinks I cant see him! Harmless little creatures and we are pleased to know they are around our area.

We have around 60+ 'Roos calling our place home.
I think I've posted these before, but I always get a giggle out of them.
That 'Joey' is an optimist, no way was he getting back in the pouch.

    Nice photos!

Wildlife over is limited to birds, deer, wild boars and if you are very lucky a badger, fox or snake.

And even these were made in a park...

I will be donning a wet suit and diving off Blairgowrie (in Port Philip Bay) tomorrow, the 22nd (the Winter Solstice!) to observe the annual moulting of 'leptomithrax-gaimardii' aka Giant Spider Crabs.
Can't take a camera but maybe next year if I work on behaving myself.
These crabs come up to the shallows in this area to get rid of their shells and grow new ones, they are vulnerable for several days to Rays, small Sharks and some 'imported' breed of Starfish', but as they cluster in vast numbers the casualties are few.
Apparently they return to the depths of the Bay and a fairly solitary existence within a couple of weeks, so I'll take advantage of the invitation I received and have a look.

These images are off the Australian Marine Museum(?) web site but they show what has my attention......and FWIW, a mature 'leptomithrax-gaimardii' is around the size of dinner plate.
    Should be interesting.

@ Wombat & Ferry, those are nice captures of wildlife. I loved the ant eater and kangaroo images. We don't see 'many' of those around here in Louisiana.

John, I really need to get something waterproof!
Some of the clusters of those Giant Spider Crabs were hundreds of Metres across.
Too add to my frustration the clarity of the water in the area we dived in was brilliant.
Always next year.......I've started looking around as a precursor for late June 2019.

When we went to the Galapagos Islands a few years ago I bought a Go-Pro Hero4 for underwater use. It worded fine. I later used it in Belize. Here are a few shots from Belize.
