    Bristol Blenheim Mk. NFI.zip

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British

Description: Just prior to outbreak of war about 200 MkIs were produced as MkIFs as day/night fighters with a belly pack of four .303 machine guns. As day fighters they suffered badly at the hands of the Luftwaffe so all five squadrons became night fighters, At the same time the RAF were experimenting with Airborne Interception radar and as sets became available Blenheims were equipped with AI MkIII. Even with turrets removed Blenheims found it hard to chase down faster German a/c but eventually became successful night fighters with many kills to their credit. These a/c remained in service until replaced by the faster, more powerfully armed Beaufighter in late 1940 and 1941.

    Bristol Blenheim Mk. IV.zip

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British

Description: Even before war broke out it was realised that the Blenheim Mk. I had severe shortcomings in regard to speed, defensive armament, and all-round performance. In an effort to solve these problems, several changes took place - the most obvious being the lengthened nose which created a bomb-aimer/navigator position, the firepower in the dorsal turret was increased by replacing the single Vickers K gun with twin Browning belt-fed machine guns (still .303) and later a single Browning in a rear-facing chin turret was added. This was later replaced with a twin .303 turret. Despite these efforts the new Mk. IV showed itself to be just as vunerable as the earlier version on contact with the enemy. Blenheim bomber squadrons suffered many casualties on ops against German forces in France, and against targets in Germany and the North Sea area. However, until better aircraft came on stream, Blenheims continued to be used in Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East theatres until 1943.

    Baldy and Uncle,
    http://www.211squadron.org/bristol_blenheim_iv__.html
This site has some interesting information on the use of Blenheim IVs by 211 squadron, as well as markings. Still looking for 211 sqn colour profiles.
    Cheers,
    Michael

Thanks Baldy. I have been to the rafweb site often. The markings for 211 sqn apparently changed a bit as they moved from one theatre to another.
BTW, the profile on that page for a 211 sqn DH-9 would make a great skin. A shame that there is not a DH-9 for CFS2 (though I think there is a DH-9A).
    Cheers,
    Michael

Icon22 Bristol Blenheim Mk. IVF released!

Just to announce the upload of the penultimate aircraft in the Blenheim series - this model represents the MkIVF fighter which served in Coastal Command on convoy protection duties until replaced. They were then shipped to the Middle East where they served with, among others, South African and Free French squadrons. Some were even sent to the Far East to reinforce RAF units against the Japanese.

    cheers

    Bristol Blenheim Mk IVf.zip

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British

Description: In '39 -'40 the RAF was desperate for fighter aircraft and so approximately sixty Mk. IVs were produced as fighters with the addition of the four gun belly pack. These served mainly with Coastal Command to protect convoys from aerial attack. As these a/c were replaced by better equipment they were shipped to the Middle East where they could still perform a useful role. Some of these a/c were even fitted with 20mm cannon in the nose for a ground attack role. When the threat from Japan became apparent many Blenheim Mk. IV and Mk. IVF were shipped to the Far East where they performed useful service until replaced.

    Baldy,

Very nice work, I really like the visual model with these. I may switch to them before releasing BoF, well done!

    Baldy,

True, but I'm not talking about the aircraft skins, I'm talking about the actual visual model itself. I look at what you're doing now and what you did with the Polish aircraft versus where you were ten years ago, and it's night-and-day.

    Bristol Blenheim MkV

It has been fun producing this new series of Blenheim aircraft but unfortunately must end on a low note.

Sometimes known as the Bisley ( after the national rifle shooting centre ) - this was possibly one of the worst aircraft issued to the RAF during the war. Finally built as a ground attack machine but without powerful enough engines to carry all the weight. Not good enough for the ETO it was shipped to North Africa and India. It proved so vunerable to enemy fighters and ground fire that it was withdrawn from front-line service after several months, 18 Sqn RAF being, to all intents and purposes, wiped out in action in Tunisia on Dec 4th 1942.

Note to Rami: this is a completely revised model with entirely new 2D ,vc panels and air and dp files -- so could you please remove the old model from the library - UncleTgt's textures for the old model are compatable with this new issue

    Bristol Blenheim Mk. V.zip

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British

Description: The last and, without doubt, the worst of the Blenheim series. This a/c was originally conceived as a high level bomber. The specification was then altered to ground attack with several machine guns in the nose - then altered again to having a bomb-aimer position in the, now, partially glazed nose. This role meant added armour and other extra weight - unfortunately without the extra power in the engines. The resulting a/c was very vulnerable to enemy fighters and was never seriously used in the ETO. Most were shipped to the Mid East and India / Burma. They proved to be so vulnerable that they were withdrawn from service after several months and replaced with better aircraft such as the Beaufighter or Maryland.

    Baldy,

I finally got a chance to install these, you did a great job on them. I'm really torn between the two models for BOF, but I will decide before I release it.

    Blenheims

Thank you Rami, your and other peoples comments are are very encouraging and much appreciated by both myself and Uncle. Over time we have become a bit of a team with Uncle keeping me honest. His input is not just the textures but also the technical stuff which is over my head. We spark off each other and hopefully the end result is something people can enjoy.

As someone in 'MASH' once said 'How's that on the humble meter ?'

Seriously I don't think we've finished yet - there are a couple of other Blenheim variations yet.
