    Asiana Airlines is the same outfit that landed short at San Francisco a few years ago, and they've had other mishaps as well. Apparently they're not good at checking for wing clearance, either.

    The plane that got it's vertical stabilizer sheared off was parked rather far back from the gate and was wildly out of position!

    Yes, its standard practice to hold short of gate if no marshaller or the docking system isnt yet activated for the gate. It had just arrived. Fault is totally with the Asiana crew... theres a thread on Pprune.
