    Spanish GP this weekend.

This caught my eye and really amused me........and the Spanish GP is one where several teams are supposedly bring upgrades.
MacLaren are sporting a 'new' front unit with more 'wings' than the entire production run of Fokker Triplanes!

    A few observations.
Robert Kubica managed to get a run during P1 and finished faster than both 'regular drivers' for Williams.
Curiously around 50% of the grid had spins into the kitty litter and a couple of cars were bent rather badly.
Apparently there was a wind direction shift which 'assisted' a number of cars around or off the tarmac.
Brenden Hartley did himself no harm but wiped out his STR toward the end of P3 (I think) with a comprehensive head butt into the barriers.

That's funny. Did you see the winglets on Vettel and kimi's halo. FIA said no more after this race....

I looked through several images taken over the last couple of days and the number and variety of beautifully crafted fins, wings, winglets, barge boards, splitters and all manner of tacked on CF gubbins is ridiculous!
Watching practice sessions is quite informative, especially at Jerez where all the updates show up and the camera men sneak in some great close ups.
For a few minutes I was trying to work out just what the extra bits on the Ferrari halo was, then I had one of those 'You are joking!' moments.
I noted at the AGP the number of cars wearing small aerodynamic appendages on their halos and thought 'This is going to get abused'..........memories of the idiotic 'X-Wing' Tyrrell 025 from 1997 and the equally bizarre Jordan 198 with winglets mounted on struts either side of the cockpit in 1998 came back.
At least this present tweak has been caught straight away, unlike the 1997-1998 fiasco that lasted 2 seasons.

Those constructors must an army of lawyers and engineers pouring over the rule book to find any loophole in the regs. You're right, some of the past (inventions) looked really strange and down right ugly. I kinda figured someone would figure out a way to add some kinda winglet or whatever you want to call em on the halo.

    1 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1’16.173
    2 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 1’16.213
    3 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 1’16.305
    4 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 1’16.612
    5 Max Verstappen Red Bull-TAG Heuer 1’16.816
    6 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull-TAG Heuer 1’16.818
    7 Kevin Magnussen Haas-Ferrari 1’17.676
    8 Fernando Alonso McLaren-Renault 1’17.721
9 Carlos Sainz Jnr Renault 1’17.790
    10 Romain Grosjean Haas-Ferrari 1’17.835

The usual suspects at the pointy end (The Noah's Ark Syndrome), good to see the HAAS duo, Fernando and the STR Honda in the top 10 as well.
SFA time difference between the Red Bulls, how far into the first will lap will it be for Verstappen to attempt to take out Ricciardo?

There is no STR on the top 10. Sainz Jr is now driving a Renault...

I always wondered how long until they mount 4 cameras (1 wide view, 1 close up, each side) pointing backwards and attached to the body and then have 4 screens inside the cockpit. Just saying.

    Flawless win by Lewis Hamilton

Haas is planning a major upgrade for Grosjean's car in Monaco:

Its a pity Grosjean took Pierre Gasly out of the race, as it would have been interesting to see what he could have done with the Honda engine.

    Cheers,
    Huub
