Why hadn't I done this sooner!

While working on my Morotai scenery, a member I was communicating with sent me a screen shot of his in-sim Morotai island. Because he had ORBX Base and Global Vector his coastlines looked nothing like my default coastlines. Because I want to make my Morotai compatible with default and ORBX, I purchased Base and global Vector.

Why hadn't I done that sooner?

My computer is over seven years old and is an i5 650 @3.2 with 8 GB Ram and a NVidia 750Ti 2GB. Not screaming fast!!

So I have been developing Morotai with scenery complexity and autogen density all the way too the right with AA and anisotropic filtering, ground shadows with lots of parked AI.

So what you say. I figure if I could get 30 FPS set at 30 with little variation, then those with better machines will be more than all right.

I thought I was able to get those frames at Morotai just because there is not much on Morotai. Seems reasonable.

But what blew me away was without changing my scenery settings I made some flights in the northeast (Pennsylvania and southern New England) and my frames are still in high 20s and the landscape is filled with autogen. It seems with ORBX I am getting better frames with more complexity and more autogen.

Is this the experience of other ORBX users?

    Regards,

    Joe

Hey Joe, FTX Global (base) is a no-brainer, with little or no frame rate sacrifice for a truly global upgrade of FSX. Vector received a more mixed reception when it was released, with some having to de-tune other graphics settings to get satisfactory frame rates.
I've had Global for years but I only purchased Vector literally, yesterday and haven't installed it yet.
So I'm greatly encouraged by your first impressions running both on your modest hardware.
    Happy flights!

I have got FTX Global, Vector and OpenLC North and South America (with their free mesh as well) and I almost exclusively fly in that area because the frame rates are so good on my rapidly ageing PC (60 fps) and because Orbx have done such a great job on the terrain textures.

Joe. It was not until I started doing some scenery for myself; flying boat bases in the Pacific, that I found that the FSX default coastlines for lots of places all over the globe were well very inaccurate, referenced say against a map or Google Earth. There is lots of discussion why this is but ORBX in a detailed discussion paper on scenery and FSX generally said that in lots of places they had to redo outlines, coastlines, altitudes etc because of fudged or inaccurate data in FSX, this was particularly the case in some areas as opposed to others, the US and Japan for example. The Pacific was very poor. ORBX Global fixed this, fixed up the terrain and LC textures and gave me accurate coastlines which I could then use. I use Global Vector as well and find its Configurator tool a very useful tool to fix elevation issues with scenery and it does this nearly 99%. Alas it cannot correct for errors in port over 2004 scenery into FSX because of the shift from a tube to a more Mercator world projection for the scenery base mesh etc, always get latitude and longitude errors, not much but enough.

Now your FSX world and your scenery design and layout fit properly you will get a very nice result. What is misunderstood with this product is that it fixes all those scenery issues in FSX if you want better LC for some areas then you need a specialist product for that as well.

I think it is worth the money and the download hit, they are very big programs running into the high gigabyte numbers is my only issue.
