Another reall lousy weather situation. Not as bumby, not as much icing. Crosswind landing, LOW visibility. AGAIN.
Patchy fog, as they used to say when I lived in the Bay Area
ANYWHO, the baton is free at EDDK. Take it away...

Have fun, gang. I'll make another leg in the AM...

Well, I learned a very valuable lesson today: Do NOT do flight route planning before my second coffee.
I honestly thought this was a 475 mi flight. Apparently I was mistaken. I do apologize. I will make more careful plans in the future.
On the bright side, it WAS less than 500 miles

The baton is free at EPKK.
    Duenna to follow momentarily.

OK, Maybe the next carrier can do better planning than I.
    Color my face bright crimson...
    Carry on (pun intended )

Just a heads up.............. if anyone is using the Aircraft Factory P51H in FSX or P3D you might want to take a look at a new thread I started in the 'Hideout' which could be beneficial to you, it's certainly made things better for me.

    Baton free at UMGG.

Boy it was dark out there and even though the airport had an ILS there were no VASI lights so the approach was a bit tricky. Greased her in though without a bounce!

I have the baton at UMGG, heading to LRCK, in the SOH F7F-3 Metal, FSrealWX Lite. I had the armorers remove the guns and ammo for this run. Hope it's not a mistake! Oh well, I have my trusty .45 Cal M1911A1!

Is that destination ICAO code correct Pat? That would take us southwest instead of east towards South Korea!
    Larry

  17. #17
It was the best destination I could come up with within the distance constraints. I may have missed a better one, I am far from perfect. This gives us a lot of possibilities for the next, however.
I am terrible at planning complex routes like this.
At least it wasn't a NE route

If there's a better destination, please, let me know. I can either change my destination, or we can cancel this leg, and select a better destination. Let me know

I am 40 min out, BTW...
    Pat☺

EDIT: Maybe a better way to say it: Best choice I could find giving approximatly the correct direction, in general, but also giving the best range. Does that make more sense?

As I said before, if there was a much better choice for this leg, or even just better overall, please, PLEASE feel free to take it instead. Thank goodness this is Practice for the Race, not the Race. If anyone can take a better leg, direction and range, feel free to throw out this leg and use that. I am always happy to be educated in "How to".

Have fun, all! That's the whole point, anyway

But, strangely enough, the direct way from Europe to South Korea IS North East!

Here's where we've stopped so far, and where we're heading.

A direction of roughly 60-70 degrees is good for now...

A great tool for route planning is "Destination Finder for FS9". It's a neat utility that will easily answer questions like "show me the airports that are between 400nm and 500nm from my start point, in a direction of between 40 and 80 degrees.

    It's available here:

Ok, I see now. The Great Circle route is what's going to get us there fastest. I understand a bit better.
Now, my question would be, if I may ask, from UKCC there appear to me to be two choices along that general heading: One is about 296 mi, one is about 606 mi. Would it be a better choice to take the shorter stop, and hop from there to the next destination possible along this basic heading, or take the longer as a wild card type leg? Or even longer, on a airliner type leg?
In other words, stick to he general heading constraints, and plan stops using whatever means necessary, like longer wild card legs, relatively short hops, etc, as needed, or stick more to the distance restriction of 500 mi, and deviate from the heading, as I did unknowingly?
Like I said, I am really bad at route planning, and ANY advice or suggestions are always more than welcome. Or even a policy statement sort of thing I could follow, that the SOH Team tends to stick to. I am new to this team's means and methods. I am very sure that by now you all have a set of parameters that works best for you all, and I want to follow this policy.
Thanks very much for the help. I really do appreciate it.

Just so you know, I am very thick skinned. Statements like "No, you idiot, like THIS!" don't bother me in the least. I went through Marine Boot Camp. I've been yelled at by the best.

    Have fun all!
